I would say that it is a missing CODEC, do a search for Gspot.exe and download, open and run the youtube video then run gspot.exe, will tell you the missing CODEC and where to download it (should).:yep:

You don't need any kind of codecs for Youtube. It uses it's own flash-based player that plays all the videos straight from the browser.

@Xabba: Could be one of many things. I suggest using Google on this one, it returns quite a few results with different causes and solutions.

Keep G-Spot for further use but forget about it for now, it won't help you with streaming content.

You might want to start working on the Youtube issue first, since their help and troubleshooting section is quite extensive. There might already be an answer for this, since I'm sure you aren't the first person with this problem.

You are possably correct Fincuan, I'm no expert there!

I ran it but it didn't report any problems.

Since BBC is working and WM Player works I guess the problem isn't with me but the other end.

OK, then maybe you are having trouble playing flash movies (swf) files as suggested, you could go here and follow the tests described on the page::hmmm:

I had a similar problem several years ago. I did not get any sound from any streaming video on the net, yet I could play music and videos on the hard-drive.

Frankly, I never found a solution as I soon afterwards changed my computer and with a new Windows install everything came back to normal. I just hope you don't have to take sure a radical solution as reinstalling Windows.
