hi im kinda new to subsim ive used it for modding SHIII as ive played it the last few years but i recently got SH4 gold version....well a few nights ago i sat down and started playing, the u-boat missions anyway during the first mission i decided to set my sights on midway harbor....long story short im lurking underwater with destroyers circling over my head when from the back i hear "we have critical flooding sir" well i immideatly pulled up the damage screen and to my horror my stern is rapidly becoming the scary shade of blue....well after frantic clicking and much head scratching i realised i have no idea how this new damage control works....i even went so far as to download the manual and much to my dismay it has all of two lines of text on the subject....not very helpful....im wondering if someone would take the time out of their busy life to help me....perhaps making a short list of detailed steps for repairing something eg. a bulkhhead..... i would really appriciate it guys.....feel this is about the only place i can ask this kind of question and maybe get an awnser

I don't play that side of the war but I can give you a general idea of the system. You have a damage control team that you have to activate by a menu button. There are buttons on the tabs that take you to the damage screen. Damage equipment shows up in red with a box that when moused over shows the numerical damage. In the center bottom is a box that shows all the damaged equipment in the order the game thinks it should be repaired. The team will follow this order and you can shift the equipment around if it does not suit you. Other than that it is automatic.

If you go to General Quarters and activate the DC team the repairs will go faster but they will be done even if you take no action.

Generally the area damaged will be the only area that floods even though you see spraying water in the control room which is just for effect. Also when you activate your damage control team (which also activates when you are at battle stations) is seen in the control room. But it is just for effect and nothing more. Also as you progress in the game take note of the special abilities that some crew members get and be wary of this so you can place them in appropriate compartments when needed. Some can repair demolished equipment rather rapidly, some give you extra sensor ranging and some boost speed and some are medics. Also some ofthem can be purchased with renown when in port but i find they are too much money. Also you have to assign crew to the damage control slots in crew managment. The best time to this is when you are in port so you can get free crew members to fill in here. I do not think they are automatically assigned. If you gforget this and activate your damage control you will find no one is there.

As an alternate way to manage your damage control crew--don't put any personnel in the damage control slots when you are in port. Then, when you are submerged and under attack or might be attacked, move some of your in-boat crew like the deck watch and gun crews into those slots. This does two things, it protects those crewman who are otherwise vulnerable to dc attacks, and it allows you to put highly qualified crew in the dc slots.

There just 'indicators' for the game mechanics.

Perhaps the bulkhead was warped enough to prevent the door from sealing /shrug
