:damn:i hate mines i really do
patrol was going well i south east of scapa flow and went to periscope depth to avoid a destroyer only to suffer a massive explosion when a mine snagged my conning tower near the deck gun
critical flooding but thankfully my hull held as i sank to 104 meters before bottoming so i repair pump out the water ive lost both periscopes, hydrophones, deck gun and radio antenae
so i thank the u boat gods:salute: im still alive and head home for wilhelmshaven
then comes the final blow i just southeast of helgoland im jolted out of time compression to the tune of critcal flooding again
this time there was no saving her i order abandon ship and we go for a dip in the northsea and await rescue from a nearby vorpostenboot
now heres the thing i traversed this area many times savely and as far as i know theres no minefield here but i cant be sure
anyone know about minefields around helgoland? i hate mines:damn:

Yep. Check the campaign files if you still want to use that route, but I'm pretty sure the East side is clear.

Go to your silent hunter 3 folder and open the mission editor.
From file, select open SCR layer, and open this file.

I am playing GWX also I tend to avoid all shores because not familiar wit where mines are located. I went into the campaign file you mention but am not sure what to look for. I found an entry like this:
[OrdnanceUnit 4]
Name=Minefield#1
Class=Minefield
Type=500
Origin=France
Side=0
GameEntryDate=19380101
GameEntryTime=0
GameExitDate=19400614
GameExitTime=400
Long=7249.000000
Lat=5941232.000000
Height=0.000000
Heading=0.000000
RandStartRadius=0.000000
Density=5.000000
HeightIntervalMin=-12.000000
HeightIntervalMax=-7.000000
NextWP=0
I take it that this is a minefield. How can I decipher this to understand what location this is and at what time are the mines laid?

There is a British minefield to both east and west of Helgoland.....pay particular attention to the dates because they are not permanent fixtures.

maybe you'll call me crazy, but how can I activate the mines fields? because I look for scr file in mission editor but I don't find it...

Are you using GWX? If so, the fields are already there and already active. If not, no minefields.

I'm glad you posted this. I always take the western side. Must be sheer dumb luck that I haven't gone 'boom'.

Check the campaign file also because they are dated.

If I remember correctly, there are also some mines at the north end of the English Channel by a couple ports. I can't remember what port it was that I went to raid, but as I was getting close I raised my periscope and had to issue back emergency to avoid a mine right in front of me. :haha: I turned right back around and waited for a merchant to lumber past after that close call.
