consisting of a 1.2GHz Kirkwood processor, 512MB flash storage, 512MB DRAM, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and USB 2.0. This bad boy supports many standard Linux 2.6 kernel distributions, and the whole thing plugs directly into a standard wall socket, drawing "less than one tenth of the power of a typical PC" while in use. Currently available for $99, the company says that it anticipates a price drop to $49 "in the near future."

Wow! For a home file and simple services server this is perfect!

This is the future folks! Small PCs doing the work of large server towers of the past and with Nvidia Ion the whole game changes for desktop PCs as well!

I can't see using that as a file server as is unless your talking documents and other small files. Now of course you could hook up a external drive to it via the usb, but that makes for a very slow file server.

It's a neat idea but I want to whap the heck out of them with a rolled up newspaper for it being a fat socket hog. That stupid thing will block off 1-2 outlets with its width on a power bar, and since it hangs down you can only fit one of em on a wall socket (and probably not a power bar at the same time since they also love to make plugs that hang down). it also should be wireless.

Sorry, but fat socket hogs are one of my biggest pet peves about the industry (that and ups/powerbars with the sockets crammed together).
