Oct 22nd, 1942, U-149 attacked a convoy of 5 soviet ships off the Eastern Back Sea. After using all 5 torpedoes to sink 2 ships (including the escort) and wounded another 2, U-149 surfaced to attack 3 unarmed merchant ships with flak gun. After sinking a coastal tanker, Captain Jahn turned his attention to a wounded and stopped Passenger/Cargo. He close to within 100 meter before opening fire. After a few shots, the victim exploded violently, a truck on the cargo deck flew into the air and landed right on top of the uboat. (sorry, not picture available because external camera was disabled and the captain was dumb founded by this inicredible situation).
When the stunned captain come about to realize the perilous situation and start the emergency repairs, U-149 was already motally wounded. 1 crew member died when the truck landed on top of the flak gun, killing him instantly. Another died of his wounds after abandoning ship. They should consider themselves lucky. After scuttling their boat, the remining crew are taken prisoner by the Soviets, sent to Siberia, half of them are never heard from again.
