View Full Version : SH3 addons
Does anyone have SH3 addons: Silent Hunter III: Seawolves and U-Boat: Battle in the Mediterranean.
If you do, please tell me is it worth buying and does SH3 with addons works with GWX 3.0?
Thank you!

those "addons" were already discussed on the forums... and no. do NOT buy it/them...
they are just a rip off of the work of the modding community :nope:, just use GWX.
get your FREE mods from here... or BTS.

GWX 3.0 or NYGM already include all of the content that those packs have, plus more. Those two packs were put together a few years back by a company who took the work of our mod community, bundled it up and sold it for their own profit. Don't bother with it.
Thank you for quick reply and honest response.

I did buy them but when I learned they were making money off of things our modders had done I felt like a traitor and threw them away.

* I grab a big book, a leather strap holds it firmly shut... and it's showing it's age... the leather on the cover is loosing its color and it's really worn out... I open it... and blow the dust*
Says the legend... that many winters ago, a company whose name is not to be said out loud prowled on these forums and as many of us do, downloaded the mods offered here, for free.
Once back on their lair, they created a CD... the one CD to scam them all. They sold this CD and not until someone from these lands bought it, the truth remained on the shadows...
Such CD contained mods developed on these very forums, and that can, and shall be obtained for free. But non the less, this evil beings charged for them. And still do, and WILL do, until we bring that CD and burn it on the same CD-burned that created it as it is the only one capable of destroying the evil contained within such contraption (the CD).
i'm sorry.. i HAD to tell it like that :rotfl:

Sadly it will probably be done to SH3 Gold and\or GWX 4.

I am not an attorney, far from it, but is there not some type of infringement here
concerning artistic talent?
Maybe I should'nt have brought it up but I feel bad about having bought someone else's property.

it is... one hell of an infringement... BUT...
i don't think any of us* has registered the intellectual property of their mods and, even a lesser number has a written authorization from Ubi to do such mods. (As far as i know, you need one.)
* i mean "us" as the subsim comunity.

Actually if the company that used the community mods to make money didn't have permission from Ubi, I think they could take action since there making money off of a game that Ubi published. Its probably up to them. Maybe they did take action and its pending.

You don't have to register your work in order to retain intellectual property rights (although you would need to do so before you went to court). That was an infringement, registration or not.
A Creative Commons non-commercial license would be appropriate here (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/), except I'm sure Ubisoft could forbid it if they wished to. Has Ubi ever commented on how they view modders and their work, vis-a-vis IP, or have they just turned a blind eye (probably the wisest thing to do)?

in that case..........lets get cracking on the soure code!
I have feeling that UBI little cares for it's community. If they do they would stop such devious release. And among other else they would release SDK. That's my opinion.

It is obvious that we all hate pirates and theft even though it may be legal. This forum has good taste in regards to modding. To me it seems that a professional modder would ask permission to use another modders work. Obvious that does not happen, out of subsim that is. There for shame, shame, shame. Not professiona...

Couldn't agree more. But, I still don't understand why Ubi didn't react. Did people in modding community warned Ubi for piracy and misconduct?
I'm closing down this one...History has shown that this issue isn't the best one to discuss...:dead: If you mateys use the "search"-function in here you will find all the answers needed regarding this topic.:salute:
