I bought a gaming PC while I had the cash. Because I know there is no way in hell I am going to be able to justify one 1-2 years from now (or less) the way things are going.

Consuming is the best thing a consumer can do to help with the crisis, so stock whatever you want as long as it isn't money

You should have waited for the discounts to really kick in , I put off buying a new car last September , by December one dealer was doing 3 for the price of 2 . Now one is doing them half price .
Likewise with land and property , reccesion really opens up oppertunities , land is already down 40% over here and houses by a 1/3 . Once the repos really kick in it will be time to scoop them up just like in Britain when Thatchers free market economic "miracle" went belly up .
Though of course it does require that you are not already saddled with debt or need to borrow from the banks .

I know a lot of people who are in the personal preparedness thing to the extreme.:06: Not that its a bad thing, but they are prepared for some pretty wacky stuff. (along the lines of the end of the world, nuclear war, etc)

I would bet that we will see some degree of inflation. The question will be "how much inflation and how long will it last?" I have always had a three month supply of grub and water. Had to restock as the old stuff was bloating the cans. Seems that spam has a very long shelf life as does canned chili. Distilled water is the only way to go because it will last almost indefinitey as compared to spring water. I would shy away from the MRE's that people sell at gun shows and such. They are rejects from the military and some have had sealing problems. they are over priced anyway. Tuna fish is pretty good and i buy it when it is on sale for 2 cans for a dollar. So if the crap hits the fan you are all welcome to dine here so long as you like creative dishes made out of tuna, spam and canned chili....:salute:

If an economic situation were to get that bad those supplies would be next to useless in the long term.

If things get that bad.. These are far better

Seeds

Gardening tools

Books on various skills

Enough Small Solar Cells to keep a small radio charged (No Dynamos do not work as you would find yourself too exhausted to crank it at times and an AM radio may be badly needed at that point)

Cheap, effective insulation so a room can be sealed to retain heat.

Fresnel Lenses so you can use the sun to cook or heat something or even to boil water.

Water cleaning supplies..

--------------

What you have to understand is that if it gets to the point where you have to rely on "stocks" of items. Thats a depression that will last a decade at least. Because advancements would stagnate and the things needed to get the economy going again would be delayed.

All we need is fiscal responsibility accross the board going forward.

When banks write loans to people who they know fail to meet the basic loan requirements based on any real assessment, and when there are insufficient checks and balances in Wall Street, this is where you end up.

The Democrats will spend the next four years making the lower educated middle class more and more dependent on Government assistance in various areas of their lives, and this will make it increasingly difficult for a Republican Administration to get elected over the next 20 years.

We have entered the era of assisted living. :)

There were some folks who went that route during the great depression. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrows, John Dillinger, etc. Pretty much all of them died in a hail of gunfire and going back further we have the example of the James Gangs raid into Northfield Minnesota.

We have entered the era of assisted living. :)You are correct sir! Some Sociologist refer to this as social engineering and has been in play for some time. They call it "the entitlement society". A socialists dream, but a freemans nightmare and one that can only be acheived by income/wealth re-distribution that Obama seems hell bent on accomplishing. My Father had his own business in the early 70's and was in the black each year and had to put 30% down to buy a house then. Across from us a hispanic family on welfare with no job qualified with no money down. This infuriated my Dad to no end. Because he was a hard worker up till this point. Sadly rather than keeping his pride he decided to join them rather than beat them and this is what the democratic party wants. A society of deadbeats who want their cheese handed to them from the government. Many say it will be like Cuba but i think it will be a bit better than that. They would fear a revolution if they let it slip to that level.

I agree. I'm about to get some money flowing back into the economy myself and if I get a stimulus payment I intend to use it instead of saving it.

It will help. Especially if you spend it on the few remaining US made stuff (Like a few video games)

But for petes sakes people. Get some seeds! Look up what can grow in your area and consider grabbing some! Tomatoes are great as they are very high output and an average yard can sustain you if you plant some beans as well.

Yeah, but you'd better stock up on the Guzzleline or you'll end up with Tina Turner in Thunderdome in a couple of years. A razor sharp boomerang and a gyrocopter might be useful too.

2010 to 2012 is probably a good target date to be ready for anything from a major earthquake, foreign war, collaspe of the world banking system to your wife running off with the water delivery man.

After watching my friends and one land lord get all excited about Y2K (that I couldn't then afford to get ready for) and then it all came to nothing ... I find it hard to take this get ready for a world wide problem that will have no respect for persons.

Seriously just for a moment think it all out ... Lets say you have everything you need stored in a basement or a backyard storage shed or even a 40' shipping container on five acres of land in a rural area with a natural year long spring running on your property.

If the problem your ready for hasn't happened yet ... How are your going to protect what you have? You have to go to work, you like to go out to eat, to a movie or shopping, right?

And if you were ready for any emergency and the moment came ... How could you ever leave the accumlated material for any length of time without fear someone else will claim it as their emergency supplies (with or without a gun in their hand)?

The only answer I can think of is a big family or a like minded group of people that stick together in these kind of emergencies.

Cult churches have been ready for years for example, but I do not recomend them due to some members have gone wacky and killed everyone they could before turning the gun on themselves. lol

Having every thing just right anf being ready for any emergency is nice, but is it practical?

Like a local drug dealer I know ... he says he is afraid to leave home and when he does all he can do is worry about the drugs and guns he left behind. :yep:

@Danurve

It is a basic 4 power non reflective scope. Recoil is actually quite light.

@August

The sling is actually a sort of "dark gull grey", but for some reason the cheapo-depot digital camera i used makes it appear sort of a baby blue color. oh well. ;)
