View Full Version : Unexplained diesel engine failure

I recently picked up SH4+U Boat and I've had a blast with it.
However, I've encountered an annoying problem that I can't figure out. Sometimes after I survive an underwater attack, my diesel engines stop working. The damage screen says they are undamaged or fully repaired (along with every other part of the propulsion system). My crew is fine, there is no flooding. The electric motors work fine, and I still have diesel fuel. But when I surface and ring up any power, I get no response.
I've only noticed this in the S-class boats, but that might just be because I've spent most of my time in them.

checklist:
check the thread for the mod your using (TMO had a fix for an s-boat problem)
make sure crew is not still at battlestations (they get tired and go to sleep on you)
use free camera to check your propellers are still there (stranger things have happened)
save your game then reload it (this fixes things when the game gets stuck sometimes for reasons unknown)

Thanks for the reply.
- Not using a mod other than the RSRDC
- Crew isn't tired (I have made that mistake before though!)
- I'll look around with the camera next time. In each instance I've taken hull damage
- Save and reload didn't work.
Is this a known problem with the S-boats? Is there a standalone fix for it? I don't think I'm quite ready for one of the big mods yet - I hear they're quite a step up in difficulty, and I'm having trouble staying alive as it is!

You dident uhhh.. run out of fuel did you?
BTW welcome to the forums. Dont let the mods scare you. You can always take them out.
you did use jsgme right?
Almost forgot ! Welcome to SubSim !!!
If you are hit by any depthchargers or airstrike, the fuel can leak out untill you are out of it. Pisses me off every time, lol.
Otherwise, go back to your last saved game BEFORE the strike. Hope you got one ;)
Happy hunting!

Fuel was still reasonable.
I've found the best solution is to any problem with the S-boat is to sink a lot of ships so they give you a new sub when you get back to port! You don't realize how miserable the S-boat is until you've done a patrol in a real fleet boat.

I also have this problem. I drive the S boats mostly. This happened twice to me.:damn::wah:
Is there a fix??

sometimes the damage screen wont show red blocks but if you see a full red bar on the right by the engines put your mouse arrow on it, if it shows a 1 instead of the repair time left then that means its completely destroyed.
they often say this or that has been repaired even though its destroyed, its a little a game glitch i wish someone would find a fix for.

If the propeller shafts are damaged out, the engines won't do you much good. :rotfl:
