Last night I started a new career, Oblt Herbert Geue in U-7. As I was sailing from Kiel to Danzig on a goodwill visit I had several merchants come along, and was enjoying the ride as always. In the wee hours of the morning of August 2 the crew called out a "Ship spotted!" I looked in the direction indicated, but didn't see anything. The binoculars didn't help. I didn't worry about it, as I often miss what they see and act on instinct until I do; but we were not at war so I didn't bother to go looking for it, and proceeded on my intended path.
Then I noticed that a star on the horizon seemed to be twinkling, as lights often do when you are far enough away. Then I noticed another one twinkling, except this one was red. Then it hit me: it was a lighted merchant, so far away that her lights were just barely visible, and if one hadn't been red I might have missed it.
It's experiences like that one that keep me playing.:sunny:

Yep, I remember one time in late 1940 I was patrolling the Irish sea and found a battlegroup sailing north to Scapa Flow or Loch Ewe, it had about 8 Destroyers, but in the middle was the HMS Nelson, unfortunately, I couldn't get close enough to attack her. That was one experience which kept me playing. :DL

One of my favourite experiences is when your on the surface in an extremely foggy environment and suddenly a colossus comes out of the fog heading straight for you :o
I made a midnight run into Scapa Flow and sunk a troop transport. Was never detected and was able to sneak right back out where I came from. Bumping into a Task force doing 20 some knots with the HMS Hood in the middle is also a hook for this game.

My favorite was today. I attacked a light cruiser. I wasn't sure if it would sink. Couldn't stay up top to see as it was getting hot. As I am steering to avoid depth charges at a depth of about 60 meters. Here comes the cruiser just missing me with props still turning. I think he had probably dropped the charges on me just before he sunk.

yesterday took the cake though i sank my first battleship in 2 years of owning this game
i found a task force with hms nelson during the invasion of norway and sank her without taking a single dc then i headed to a supply ship in spain and went for gibralter and low and behold what do i find sitting the harbor?
hms rodney of course which made 2 bbs in one patrol
i single handedly eliminated an entire class of ships in one patrol:arrgh!:

I can see getting into the harbor. My question is how do you get out after sinking a BB. Doesn't anyone notice?:salute:

One of the most memorable moments I´ve had was in the Black Sea.
We were sent to the Sea of Azow when the Red Army was massing their forces on the Eastern shores of Kerch. We went through at night and did a sonar check when we were leaving Kerch behind us. 3 contacts, 2 merchants and 1 war ship, only 2000m away and closing. At PD we were scraping the bottom... but scope up, attack. All 3 tubes set for magnetic and fire.
The merchants exploded, but not the armed trawler that turned at us at high speed. If nothing else she would crush us against the bottom. Surface, maximum speed and turn back south, hoping that the German ship patrolling Kerch would come to our help. She opened fire with here bow gun and machine guns on the bridge. We manned our Flak guns, PK38 zwillings, fore and aft and I toke the aft mounted (type IId turm 2).
At less then 1000m and closing fast with tracers flying past and gun shells whistling past I opened fire. Aiming at her bridge I knocked out her search light and then the port machine gun, then the starboard. Her bridge was in flames and ammo exploded.
The bow gun was now visible against the flames and at almost point blank range I pounded it with my PK38, thinking this is the end.
Then, a huge explosion that rocked our U-25 and the Russian was gone.
Our boat was damaged but we turned North and completed our patrol before returning to Constanza.

And all I did was see some twinkling lights in the dark. Good stories though.

Twinkling lights in the dark can transform into attacking Sunderlands in seconds:o
