I just returned from an 80k patrol, sinking a Hood, and did not recieve any medals, my crew has higher medals than I do. What does it take to earn the various medals and promotions with GWX 3.0?:timeout:

Medals for you are buggy to say the least. You could edit some files, but you're better off ignoring it. Sometimes, Doenitz will give you random medals for no reason, and you never question Onkel Karl...

thanks, ace! I've sunk over 200k in my career so far, just seems wierd to only get one promotion and only three medals. I thought that GWX edited this content? Just was wondering what the parameters are if any one knows?:hmmm:

Someone with more knowledge is free to correct me, but I'm 99% certain that your medals are based on total renown earned over your career. Medals awarded to your crew are based on the tonnage you sank in that individual patrol.

Thanks, Jimbuna, you ace! That is great, but as previously mentioned, I sank over 80k on last patrol. So, wouldn't that mean that I should recieve the Knight's Cross?:06:

Only if you already have someone who has been awarded the Gold Cross.

Do you mean one of my crew?

Do you mean one of my crew? that list specifies the medals for the crew, not for the commander (also known as.. "the player" or "you"). that means... You will be given (not awarded) a knight's cross for you to award to a crew member, but only if BdU has already given (not awarded) you a Gold Cross for you to award your crew.

you'll have to check that file to see what are the requirements to be awarded (not given) a Knight's Cross.

I myself am baffled about my crew getting all the medals and i get none. I heard also that the crew are rewarded on tonnage sunk and the captain on renown. Not knowing how to make this more realistic of course i was wondering why that's if it was possible of course why could the GWX team not have altered things to put it how it really was.

Anyway working from where we are at the present is there anyone on here who can adjust the files to what they feel is a more realistic way of medals being received by both crew and captain. Of course the guy who does this must have some idea of how it was in real life.

Please for me anyway its no good showing me the files that need adjusting as i don't know how realistic the way medals were given out anyway.

Keep in mind that the GWX team has had to work within the original game engine's limits & it's possible that the way medals are doled out may be hard coded.

I asked about this issue last year as I had a couple of GWX 2.1 careers where I was awarded medals in a weird order. Aside from getting the Front Clasp first, I was awarded medals in the following order:

1) The Iron Cross 2nd Class
2) The U-boat War Badge
3) The "Fried Egg" - German Cross in Gold
4) The Iron Cross 1st Class

Someone one this forum (I can't remember who now) said that they would be working on a mod that would attempt to fix the way player awards were given so that they would be doled out in a more historically correct manner. Real life commitments may have put that project back on the shelf as I haven't seen anything about it since I originally asked.
