During the first carreer mission, and after about half a dozen game saves the game removes the ability to man the 20 mm gun. Anyone out there who can help me solve this delimma?

SH3 data file assignments for this flak setup are located in the Data\Cfg then the Basic file. i believe this is for Sub0, which if I am correct is the Type II boat.
Comp8=10; FlakGun
Nb8=2
Subs80=FlakGun1
TimeRecovery80=2
FlakGun1=26; E_FlakGun1
Subs81=FlakGun2
FlakGun2=27; E_FlakGun2
TimeRecovery81=2

I am unable to translate this information whereby changes might then be made to solve this problem.

have you tried manning the Flak gun on a brand new IIA on a brand new career? maybe it's just the career that has gone "funny in the head" (as the President would put it in Dr. Strangelove)

how are the seas? in rough seas, it won't let you man anything on the deck.

This situation occurs in force 0 through 6 seas - weather conditions which allow use of flak and deck guns throughout the game.

I have also tried to completely remove all previous and current missions, replaced the video card, increased RAM, and purchased new SH3 disk, all to no avail.

One other note: when the flak station becomes inoperative, I can go back to earlier game saves in the mission and the flak function is restored, only to disappear again as play continues!

Thanks for getting back to me on this fellow capitans.

wow this is pretty nuts!

perhaps it was damaged?

have you tried starting a whole new career to see if the effect is the same?

do you have any mods installed at all?

Yep. Started new mission which yeilded the same results. So far have determined this is an inherent SH3 bug....

So in desperartion have added GWX mod. Still on way to Scapa to test this problem.

Your response is most appreciated. Glad to know there's someone out there who's doing SH3!

Yes. To no avail after 3 attempts with new carreers.
So now have added GWX mod to see if doing so will solve the problem. My mission objective is to rack up enough renown during this mission to move from the Type II to either a IXB or at least VIIB boat. I'm hanging in Scapa Flow waiting for a BB or Aux Crusier to spawn....

Nice to have a person of your experience aboard. I hope to stay in touch with you.

In what fashion does the game refuse to allow you to man the flak gun?

What do you do, and what does the game do?

Have you tried dragging a crewman from the watchtower to the flak position?

Does a dialog box pop up? If so, what does it say?

Does the flak position even show up on the crew and damage management screen <F7>?

In what fashion does the game refuse to allow you to man the flak gun? ALTHOUGH THE FLAK GUN GRAPHIC SHOWN ON THE CREW MANAGEMENT SCREEN CAN STILL BE VIEWED, AND THE WEAPONS OFFICER REPORTS THE PRESENCE OF 20MM AMMUNITION, YET THIS OFFICER IS UNABLE TO ASSIGN CREW TO THE POSITION.

What do you do, and what does the game do? IN A GIVEN MISSION I TRIED DELETING ALL PRECEDING SAVES IN THE MISSION WHICH HAD THIS PROBLEM. SO, IT PROVED POSSIBLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM IN THIS WAY. HOWEVER, ONCE PROCEEDING WITH GAME PLAY IN THE MISSION, THE PROBLEM WOULD REOCCUR AT THE SAME GAME SAVE IN WHICH IT HAD FIRST APPEARED.

Have you tried dragging a crewman from the watchtower to the flak position? YES

Does a dialog box pop up? If so, what does it say? NO DIALOG BOX APPEARS

Does the flak position even show up on the crew and damage management screen <F7>? ONCE THE "BUG" OCCURS THE FLAK POSITION GRAPHIC AT F7 ALSO DISAPPEARS, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAN THE STATION BY DRAGGING A CREWMAN OVER TO THE PLACE WHERE THIS STATION IS NORMALLY SEEN.

SINCE MY LAST POSTING ON THIS THREAD I'VE ADDED GWX MOD IN AN EFFORT TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM.
THIS IS WHAT HAS NOW OCCURED: SO FAR NO PROBLEM WITH THE FLAK GUN, HOWEVER HAVE ONLY STARTED THE FIRST MISSION UP TO SEPT. 2, JUST PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF HOSTILITIES.

Have you installed the 1.4b patch? If not, maybe that clears it up.

How are you trying to make the Weapons officer assign crew to the flak position?

And what happens then?

Essentially, it seems the game thinks the flak gun has been removed.

Let's hope that fixes it, though TBH, I don't see why it should.

YOU HAVE MY RESPECT. Thx, some people just wonder if I have a life. Retirement is great. I heartily recommend it.

In all my patrols, I have never run across this problem. All I can think of, until I have your answers to the questions above, is to caution you to NEVER use the Cruise Mode buttons on the lower right part of the <F7> screen.
