View Full Version : Null grid question(s)
I've never resupplied from a milk cow before & I'd like to know what happens after I restart the game after resupplying. Will I get a Null Grid in SH3 Cmdr and can I continue my patrol as before? I've read the section in the GWX manual on docking at a milk cow/supply ship & am familiar with that part of it.
Thanks.:)

You're stuck with the NULL grid, hence no patrol reward. When I'm going to dock at a U-cow, I try to do my patrol first so I get the little renown boost. However, if I can't (say grid too far) I resupply on the way there, remember the patrol grid, and do it anyway. You might be able to set the patrol grid in SH3 commander if you boot from commander before setting out on the patrol where you leave from the U-cow. Not sure though.

You're not really losing much with a NULL grid in GWX 3, as it's removed the renown reward for reaching and patrolling your assigned grid. When you're docked at a milk cow and before you head out on your next patrol, close the game out and restart it using SH3 commander to assign yourself a new patrol grid if you like.

Just set the Commander option to away from home base.
Yeah I knew about GWX removing the renown for reaching the assigned grid. I'll just do what Jim suggested & set Commander to "away from home base" after docking at a milk cow/supply ship. Thanks again.:)

Or you can modify the lines that took the renown away to give renown again
I think the whole renown system was stupid anyway. The devs should have just allowed you to upgrade subs/equipment when they became available.

Thanks again.:)All this will do is set the number of days spent in base to 1 rather than your default (28 or whatever you've set it to in SH3Cmdr). It will have no effect on the NULL patrol grid, which is allocated by SH3 (ie, SH3 gives you a NULL grid, not SH3Cmdr).
Also, SH3Cmdr is smart enough to know where you are docked and determine the status automatically, so you shouldn't need to manually do anything.
To use SH3Cmdr to change the NULL grid, you will need to pay particular attention to the information provided on page 14 of the SH3 Commander User Guide.
And in case it's not obvious, if you leave your home port, dock at a milk cow, then return to your home port, SH3 treats that as two distinct and separate patrols.
