Hmm.. well, I guess the RN really hasn't had any recent combat operation. That'll make any military organization soft. When was the last? Falklands? The current anti-pirate stuff is more like weekend hunting than "combat'

Just when I thought the internet couldn't surprise me anymore...

...something like this shows up.

Abbafan, can you explain? I'm WTF'ing like crazy here; my brain might blue screen of death on me.

Well all one heres about these days is embarrasing 'H.M.S Cornwall' incidents, and RN personnel ganging up on people in towns and battering them at cash points for their money. So depressing really.

I think that's is only a side effect of having strong young people, with nothing better to do, and usually drunk... That isn't honorable, but it's not like this hasn't happened before. Sailors are a rowdy bunch.

As for the HMS Cornwall, it's a side effect of international politics, and Iran being a arse, the UK not willing to start a war, nor the US, and I don't see any reason to blame the RN for it.

Really I haven't heard much about the Navy and sailors since then.

This poll is pointless so I'm not voting in it.

Whats new ? You find it in any town io village in Hampshire that has a base or is close to one be it army navy or airforce , it has always been the same if it is Hampshire or any other county.
Though I suppose Hampshire does contain one exception as due to Queen Victoria being rather unamused by the antics of drunken servicemen Bordon still isn't allowed to have public houses .
Actually come to think of it there were other exceptons in Hampshire . If you went to the pubs the Ghurkas drank in there was never any trouble at all , and if you went in any of the Paras pubs the only trouble would be if people from a different regiment came in

I'm sure that if you said to any Matelot that they were nothing but 'an ipod worshipping coward' they would be more than willing to put you wrong.

HMS Cornwall had nothing to do with the 'cowardice' of the RN, it was due to the politicians setting excessively restrictive ROE that meant the RN couldn't defend themselves.

Only news I can find in relation to muggings and Navy is where the attacker was wearing 'Navy' blue. Hardly the RN's fault.

If it wasn't for your number of posts, I would assume this was just a spot of trolling.

It wasn't down to the politicians or the RoE , it was the simple fact that the patrol had ended up in an area where they were not allowed to be , it was a normal matter of jurisdiction under the mandate they were operating within .

All military groups get strange when they don't have anything to do. I didn't vote either.
