I never could understand destroying ones own neighborhood to protest something that happened hundreds of miles away.

Actually from the perspective of an 8 year old boy 1968 was great! My dad had just returned from Vietnam (mostly) unscathed and I lived in a neighborhood that couldn't be more suited to to 8 year old activities if it were planned as such.

oh, I hear you! I was even younger being raised in a quiet Norman Rockwell town that funny enough hasn't changed since.

I do remember my parents saying later on how upset and worried for the country they were during those years. The war, the riots, the assasinations....crazy.
