My sub was laying on the English coast, about 100 m deep, waiting for darkness to set in (i was planning to do a harbor raid.

Several hours went by when after a while a group of destroyers were picked up by my SO. No worries, I thought, my sub isn't making a noise so why would they know where i was.

But somehow they found out and started pinging me.

I am still wondering what it could have been what triggered the DD's to come after me. Like I said: all I did was resting on the sea floor silently. Any suggestions?

what year?

rigged for silent running?

if you were not rigged for silent running there are any number of fans, motors and such all humming along... which could be overheard by a skilled hydrophone listener.

I had a hunter killer do that same routine to me in 1944.

I was about 3KM away resting on the bottom rigged for silent running at over 180 meters deep and they made a bee-line right for me and squashed me like a bug.

i dont know how that happens

I think destroyers will make random ASDIC sweeps every so often, but what year were you in?

Sitting on the floor doesnt have the same effect as in RL
Destroyers dont " see " the seafloor ingame
Nor any land come to that

Even in RL destroyers would pick something up on the seafloor and DC only to find on returning to port was an already known wreck that asdic had picked up

the year is 1939. I don't remember if silent running was turned on. I got out alive btw.

Did you see if they were escorting aircraft carrier or were they just task force hunting for subs? They're usually neurotic when they are escorting something special. Otherwise, a plane or a ship may have spotted you then reported your location to hunter killers group, sometimes it takes awhile for them to reach to your location and searching for you. Next time, you get spotted or sunk a ship, move your spot elsewhere at least a several kilometers away for awhile.
