Im working on my moms side family tree. Her grandfather was Charles Reno he spoke French and was from Canada. His wife (moms grandmother) first name is Marie J. she immigrated to the U.S. about 1886 from Canada and mother tongue was French but nothing conclusive about her maiden name. One possible lead is her maiden name may have been Camean.

Do you Euros or Canadians have any knowledge of the origins of the surname Camean?

Some where in the wood pile is an Indian from Canada as well just not sure what tribe. Resulting in a Metis somewhere in the family line. Or so it's been said.

Camean has a distinct Mediterranean vibe to me :hmmm:

Never heard the surname Camean.

Do you have any idea where in Canada? A province, or at least if it was out West or back East?

For clarification, the West has a distinctly Scottish/Northern culture, while the East is more mixed. Though you never know in cities.

According to U.S. census information from 1900, 1905 (state), 1910, 1920, and 1930. Mary J. Reno was born in 'French Canada' July 1874, married 1897, her mother tongue was French in fact that was all she could speak until late in her age. Been told years ago I've got relatives in Quebec. Just wondering if Camean was heard of before and where around those parts or if it may have French origins. Presently the Mary J Camean (Reno) records I found may not even be my great grandmother. As certain dates in that particular persons record are only close matches (very close).

Never heard of a Camean before sounds like one dem thar fereigners to me ;) Im still looking though. The other problem I run into is the Americanized spelling of peoples names. Reno is most likely Renaud Renault, or Renouf which means more foreign records to look at. Who knows if Camean was Americanized or original.

My family has little time in the U.S. mom's side came from Canada 1886 and Prussia/Berlin around same time frame. Dads' side came from Christiania Norway in 1921 and Alagarzy Finland late 1880's.

Im subscribed to Ancestry.com it's fun and I've learned alot. It has given me some insight into the geneology resources available (public/free) so knowing that I'll be cancelling the subscription soon. Until then Im exhausting all their resources before I venture on to others but it's been helpful.

Alagarzy doesn exist in Finland, do you have a link, file or picture of your source?
Alajärvi is one possibility.
