If it continues at this rate we'll soon have to start putting our t-shirts back on :)

Funny thing is, I remember reading some of you here saying that we still have global warming since it was hot in Dec in the UK! :D

The person who said that was a blithering idiot because local climate in the short temr is no idication of a global long term trend.

Hey! Look! Snow!
Science don't know nothin'!

I am all for science, but what is flawed in scientific conclusions, is the big picture. Science and medicine gave us the wonders of life saving anti-biotics. But they did not see the ability of bacteria to adapt to the drug (Mendel's law). IMO I feel the scientist who are endorsing the notion of global warming being Man made are basing their views on short range analysis and are ignoring the geothermal history of the earth. Science is great, but tends to get tunnel vision and I think this is what is going on in these global warming studies.
Didn't take long for this thread to turn into a global warming argument  .
The worst weather is down south, When London gets it bad the whole world hears about it, it's daft. On Monday thay stopped all their buses and it was claimed that the snow was causing problems with the London underground, hang on isn't that under the ground :hmmm: . If we get nasty weather up north we're left to get on with it, we're lucky if it gets 30 seconds in the national news. Those southerners seem to think that London is the most important place in the world :yep: .

Dead-on there mate - down here they just don't know how to cope. In Scotland there's a chance of snow or freezing temps and they send out the gritters. Down here it has to be snowing heavily before these gits will send out a gritter - by then people are already sliding their cars into each other or phoning into work saying they can't get in.
I was one of the first out of our village this morning, with 4 or 5 inches of snow on the roads - people looked at me in amazement because I was even thinking of driving :)

...what? Doctors and scientists have known for decades that bacteria and viruses have the ability to evolve and build up immunity to medication.

I would agree, so long as we are both talking about the ones who blame it totally on humans.

People seem to forget that when the Vikings colonized Greenland, there wasn't a speck of Ice to be found.

Sadly not , it's one of these ;) Did me proud though, plenty of the 4WD drivers who lived near us didn't venture out all day.

Sounds like a Geordie thing?:har: So, my geography of the England is a little rusty, I take it you guys don't get snow all that often.:hmmm:

I wouldn't say that.....we certainly have our moments, but being on the coast I reckon the salt air helps a little.
'Freezing temperatures in Newcastle this morning.
Reports say it was so cold, a geordie was seen with his hands in his own pockets!'

That is very true. That's why it was named "Greenland"...

Not forgotten, an oft-studied thing called the Medieval Warm Period
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period
Sounds like a Geordie thing?:har: So, my geography of the England is a little rusty, I take it you guys don't get snow all that often.:hmmm:
The west coast is usually wetter and warmer because of the gulf stream, the east is drier but a lot colder, it's flatter and when we get winds in from the east, like we have at the moment, it can get a lot of snow.
The south of the country doesn't usually get a lot of snow, that's why I think they're often unprepared.
Our county council is running out of salt/grit now, with heavy snow forecast for tonight. Apparently we don't have to worry because there are reciprocal arrangements with neighbouring counties to use their supplies. Oh wait, they're also running low and expecting more snow tonight...

I would agree, so long as we are both talking about the ones who blame it totally on humans. Then the FDA and AMA are to blame in this case with the allowance of medical practice to prescribe anti-biotics when they were not needed. We know have bacteria strains that are immune to the current anti-biotic regimen.

the problem allso lies with media proclaiming antibiotics to be miracle cures back in the day is to blame, that is one of the reason people demand to be given antibiotics even when they dont need it.
Actualy quite a lot of misgivings about science can be atributed to misrepresentation by popular media, a recent article about quantum teleportation comes to mind.

Indeed. The media has a nasty habit of proclaiming many things about science without giving sources, too.

My stepson used to get ear Infections a lot. The "family nurse practioner" always wanted to prescribe an anti-biotic and I got fed up and demanded that the "real" doctor see him. He himmed and hawed about it then finally decided that we see an ear-nose-throat specialist. The specialist had no bones about surgery in order to allow the ears to drain properly, which was the root of the problem as is in all kids that get this. So we had it done and no more ear infections...:)
