Hello
As some of you may have read in my other post I have recently bought SH4:Gold Edition and have been enjoying my time playing it.
I'm currently on my second patrol and have been turning the realism setting slightly up from time to time, I think I'm on 30% realism at the moment.
Anyways I have noticed a couple bugs/flaws here or there but nothing overly disappointing, just the odd graphical glitch or maybe a sunk vessel I dont get credit for. So I was wondering are there any mods out there that are essential to fix some of these bugs? I know with a few other games I own there are a couple mods that 99% of the people run and I was just wondering if there was a similar mod/mods in SH4. I have been thinking of getting the RoW mod just to spiffy up the water but like I said are there some mods out there that basically everyone runs that fixes/improves game play?
Thanks for any input. :salute:

I highly recommend Trigger maru overhaul for gameplay enhancement and Captain midnight's sound pack for atmosphere. That's the only two I use so far.
I'll probably give Real fleet Boat a whirl since I heard good things that mod as well.

Thanks Soundman, I may give those a whirl sometime.
The only problem that I have found a major pain in the a$$ is that my Garr class sub, I cant aim my AA gun manually because I'm always getting a face full of metal.

I would stick with SH4 v1.5 and not add RFB or RSRD or TMO until you are ready to move up to 100 percent, or 93 percent realism (i.e. .leaving the external camera on). Then move to one of the major mod game overhauls. You will appreciate the improvements they bring to the game more.
Mods I recommend: Dick O'Kane training mission so you can practice attack techniques; 3,000 meter bearing tool; Environmental 5; Websters fewer planes and better deck gun; Fred8615's radio and music mods; Radio Station Manager; SCAF [ship centered accuracy fix] (install after reading and mastering Hitman's tutorial on manual targeting at 100% realism which is a pdf. download), and RUIM (uniform and medals mod).
Watch Rockin Robbins tutorials (all of them); master manual targeting, the Dick O'kane attack technique; the John Cromwell attack technique; sonar only attack technique; and when you get good enough, watch all of Warner Sobe's tutorials which are difficult for a newbie to absorb due to his accent and the pace of the tutorials. Also there is a excellent double attack tutorial, but I cannot remember who did it.
There is a sticky thread in the Mod Forum that lists all of the mods you would ever want and then some. Many of them are eye candy mods.
Be careful overwriting mods, but that is a subject for an entirely different post. If you have some bugs in your game, read the sticky on how to uninstall and reinstall the game. That will fix the bugs perhaps. Most of the other mods I used were eye candy.
There are some brilliant captains in the fleet. (I am not one of them.) If you watch the threads you will soon have an idea of who they are. They will walk you through almost any problem.
When you get good enough to kick serious butt, visit Digital_Trucker and he will help you design an emblem (e.g. see the blue emblem below), and build you a custom boat that you can mod into your games. He will also paste an image you select (e.g. see the images below of the girl kneeling on the torpedo) on its conning tower and paste the boat no. you select on its hull. (I think Digital_Trucker has to be the most popular person in the forum, as who wouldn't love the man who designed their emblem and built them a custom boat!) Gunfighter took the lead designing the image of the woman on the torpedo, and he, as well as Digital_Trucker, may be able to help you come up with or desgin a unique image for your emblem and boat.
Welcome aboard and happy hunting.
TMO and RSRDC or RFB and RSRDC.
I'd say add RSRDC over stock, even if you wait on adding TMO or RFB. The stock campaign is abysmal.
Other mods are optional, fixing the campaign is not, IMO.

Whoa thats alot of mods.
I'm still playing through the stock game with no mods, I'm trying to figure out what all these mods are and what they do.
TMO=Over hall of the game
RFB=Overall of the sub dynamics
RSRD=Campaign over hall?
Anyways I'm just going to keep playing the base game and eventually figure out these mods and how to install them.
RSRD is just the campaign. The stock campaign is nothing short of awful. Really.

For someone just beginning the stock game gives you lots of target, which means you get lots of time to practice. Hitting a target with torpedoes on manual setting is not a walk in the park. The game overhaul mods can be modded in when you feel comfortable with the stock game.
