This idea is too reasonable for the green set, they'd only do it if they could replace it with a $500 natural bamboo ringer. lol

As a rule, I'm not against "green" policies unless they are an economic drain, but this suggestion is garbage.

The U.S. uses, on average, about 30,000 Terawatts per year in electricty. Not only is this crap ineffective, but it is a giant pain in the ass. Should the day ever come when doorbells are causing unacceptable energy costs, the market will provide a solution. Until then, to hell with it.
