View Full Version : Question on "Insertion" Mission

Had a mission to drop a bunch of men south of Penang (hope I spelled it correctly). Had a problem with corrupt saves because they were done so close to shore (if you can hear seaguls, you're too close to "save", right?). FINALLY managed to to into position and drop the guys into their liferaft.

Horray.

Was I supposed to wait for them to return? There was nothing in the instructions about that. It just said to insert them, which I did.

I still have a good save far enough from the drop-off point where I can go back and do it correctly, if needed.

I was thinking about it this morning - what do they do? Wait for the war to end before making it back home??? Never occurred to me what a real-life situation would have been - I would assume they'd wanna come back home.

Insertion is what it means. No extraction. The group is going in for a mission, then act in a guerilla capacity until wars end. Your mission is complete. The objective star will turn grey. Though I'm not sure how close to the objective star one has get to launch the group. Shut the engines down and launch the squad. I have been getting in pretty close. Sometimes rubbing the keel on the bottom. If anyone has an answer to proximity of the objective star, let me know.

Ok, thanks for the response. I asked, because as I turned around to leave, it looked like they had hit shore and were actually coming back. Tried to interecept them, but they'd float off in another direction.

Ok, well, they're off on their mission, then. Off to refuel and go sinking something.

You only have to drop them off. After that radio a status report back to base to receive a new task.:woot:

Yeah, they actually cant make it up ON the shore so when they have made it there, they start going back and forth all the time. As mentioned above, just drop them off and you are done.

I actually felt bad once when I launched them in quite rough sea and they flipped over and never made it to the shoreline:oops: . Still, the mission was completed.

I've yet to see them not flip over after launching. It seems you can practically put your sub's nose on the beach and they'll still botch the raft ride.

I like to assume the 'real' commandos are going ashore elsewhere. These idiots are just the diversion. :ping:

I've never seen anyone flip over (yet), but I'll keep an eye on 'em.

BTW, sneaky, quiet, dark of night, under the cover of darkness, stealthy, etc. Got to the drop off point, and the lead guy of the group shoots of a big, LOUD flare gun letting $DIETY and everyone else in the area know "WE ARE HERE!". Guys, flare guns aren't QUIET!!! :o
