This is an amazing! While many worry about not being able to get another HDTV this year. These scientists may have just saved millions of future lives. Not to mention how it will help reduce the need for disaster aid and other aid that is costing us way too much for so little effect.

What do you think about this "precision breeding" stuff tho? While I will admit it is FAR safer for the environment than GMO. I just don't want to cheerlead it just yet.

The problem is not only the lack of food, but also the ever growing population. Although it is good to hear of such successes we should have no ilusion about the impact. Twenty more years of growing population and the problem is the same again. We should try to at least keep the population of this planet at it's current level (even better reduce it by a big percentage). Only then such improvements wil realy make a permanent difference.:-?

It sounds like genetic engineering to me. But I'm cool with it either way.

Well this inserts a single gene. Instead of the lab rat mix and match crap that comes with GMO.

The issue with GMO is you can accidentally create a breed of plant that would make the kudzu outbreak look like a joke.

However, people are starving and with the problem of lack of resources looming. Risks have to be taken and I would rather see small potatoes like a single gene chance than risk destruction of desperate GMO use.
