Neal necros his own thread. I'm looking at the original post and the ones that follow and scratching my head and thinking "Wait, what? If I subtract 1997 from 2011 I get 14, not 12. Am I going crazy? (well, that's a given) Have I lost what feeble math skills I had in the first place?"

So I get to the last page and see the post I made two years ago, and think...DANG IT!!! :damn::damn::damn:

Events?

Well, there was the epic Subsim Meet in Copenhagen in 2009. I couldn't go, but you guys had fun with a real submarine, and visited u-boats and got to meet new friends.

When was "The Fire"?
That would have been back in 2008. I remember it was shortly after I started my current job. Really glad I got out of tech support before that happened!

Edit:
2008 was also the year Hurricane Ike tried to wipe out Subsim. I don't know how the site went during that time (what with no power for a week), but it did do some damage to the Cavalla.

I remember the graphic at the top of the page very well - I remember the site when I went looking for help for Command: AotD, trying to get it to run on my Windows 95 box. I don't remember joining any forums then, but I may have. God only knows what handle I went by; I didn't pick up on using Growler online until some time after. So, dim recollections, but memories nonetheless.

I had a copy of Silent Steel ("A big boat just went by." "A big boat? Is that a naval term?") until recently, and may still have a copy of Seawolf floating around somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Before my time as well, but I remember the bright green front page, and the download page was a mile long!

That was still when Sh2 was the big thing, with your Atlantik Compaign and the first Das Boot Sound Mod that I got to beta test :)

That was also the time of WPL/EGL and when I was commander of the 30th Flotilla!

From 2008 to now, Hurricane Ike and the Subsim meet in torn-up Houston and Galveston.

Trip to Europe, with preview of SH5 with Dan and crew.

SH5 released..

Oh i was around but maybe not a member here yet but been around since since Janes 688I and Seawolf and sub command.. those are where i first got started.. I liked them all but one of them had actual video of the crew that you could interact with.... ive never seen this since and wish they'd bring it back... its alot more immersive.... sh5 tried but falls short (not that i own a copy cause i dont and refuse to buy sh5, do own sh3 and sh4 though)... had alot more fun with these older games then cause you could play online against other subs which is why i liked

Hi Neal,

it is difficult to say what i'm thinking about "SUBSIM". 14 Years? That's nothing in comparison to infinity. But infinity leads us to the shore of today.

If some people - let us say YOU - keep up this great forum - that's more than a hint in the dictionary of infinity.

So please keep up that great work - for alll those who are interested in that kind of stuff. We know - no one will pay for it, but get the benefits, I Know this dilemma - no one will pay for it.

Although, 14 years of SUBSIM is a great succes. Against all odds - this FORUM keeps the STANDARD of naval forums arround the world. :yeah:. That's why i must say THANKS - NEAL :yeah:

Up to the next 14 (or 15, or 28) years. Keep that good thing rolling :salute:

Greetings

Events?

Well, there was the epic Subsim Meet in Copenhagen in 2009. I couldn't go, but you guys had fun with a real submarine, and visited u-boats and got to meet new friends.

When was "The Fire"?

And there was the totally epic April Fool's joke last year. :D
Yup..that was a great meet :o)

I think the "Subsim army of Zombies" thread deserves a mention in the history books as a testemony on the members of Subsims solution to kill spam

I dunno, solution for dealing with trolls maybe, but I'm not sure I'd point to that thread as an outstanding example of killing spam. Raising it from the dead, maybe, but killing it... not so much. :haha: :O:

Was anyone here around when this was the website?
http://www.subsim.com/ssr/Neals_SUBSIM_Reviews_97.html

Hell yes. I remember doing a webcrawler search for Sub sites and seeing "Neal Steven's Deep Domaine". Being a sucker for a clever pun I dropped by.

And never left.

While I'm not the oldest member (or the most active), I've been here for almost a decade (yikes, I was 16 or so then!). And it's a great community, I hope it has many more decades ahead. Neal and Co. have done a great job.:yeah:

14 that's a long time on the internet where things constantly change.

For me Subsim have allways been one of the few places on the internet where people are trying to be polite as a first rule and if that doesn't work use alot of humor and show that wisdom allways beats stupidity, like the the thread with the army of zombies :O: :haha:

Congratulations subsim !

I was very interested in using this mod below, but in order to use this
Continuation of H.sie's patches by Stiebler. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181352) (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/smartdark/multipage.gif 1 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181352) 2 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181352&page=2))

outstanding mod the sh3.exe had to be of 2006 or later. I have two sh3 dvd's that I bought in the last few years in addition to a downloaded version that did not have starforce. None of the sh3.exe's can be patched so that the mod works with them because they are all created in 2005. On Tuesday I went through the subsim store and Amazon and ordered the sh2 and sh3 bundle hoping that the sh3 dvd and it's sh3.exe was the correct one. It too is dated june of 2005 so I'm out of luck and a few dollars. Do you know who sells sh3 that has a 2006+ version of sh3.exe? Does it have to be bought from an out-of-the-country Amazon store and if so which one? Thanks.

Hi silentwayIII,

I don't have an answer to your question, but you will probably have better luck posting it in the Silent Hunter III forum... this thread is in one of the non-gaming forums and may not be seen by a lot of the people most likely to have an answer for you. :DL

The SH3 forum is here:
