when i completed my first objectiv of the patrol (career started 1941 ,now end 1942)i contacted HC and got a new mission (deploy at east china sea) but when i lookt a bit closer there was a second icon on the map almost under the first (with a big ship on it) but no furder explenation for it !? (or 2 objectivs)
does anyone know whatfore it is and how to complete it ? ( do i wait for the ship ?or do i find it somewere else ?)

May I borrow this thread?

I remember that when at SHIII you got mission to patrol at grid X, all one had to do was to stay at that particular place for 24 hours and the mission was accomplished, right?

But what about SHIV:
I've got this mission to "Patrol Luzon strait" and this star icon with binoculars inside it at map. How long I have to stay there untill my mission is accomplished? Or is there somekind of needs to sunk X tons of enemy ships, or how does this work at SHIV?
So far I've patrolled this grid where icon is, over and over again. Going N to S, S to N, SW to NE, NW to SE but it wont come accomplished. I've reported numerous times to the base, I even spotted this enemy task force nearby (didnt have torps left to engage it...) and reported it to HQ.
HQ answered: "Good find X Will direct further assets to intercept X Break contact and RTB at your discretion X". Whatever that means... :o

Look at the message you received if you received the orders at sea, it should say something like "...patrol 0830N 12200E (made up...) by 150 miles..." The key is the "150 miles"--draw a circle centered on the star (I generally go a little conservative and make it smaller) the same size or slightly smaller than--in this case--the 150 miles. Stay inside that circle at all times for the specified time (normally 96 hours or less) until it turns grey.

If the orders came while you were in port, you won't be able to access that (as far as I know) so set the circle at 50 miles and stay inside it. Even if you just park the sub on the star (surfaced or submerged). Then just wait for the mission to complete.

Now, if you have to sink something ("Conduct Anti-shipping") I don't think it matters if you are inside or outside the circle, but you will need to spend the specified time inside the circle...

Good luck. If you have other questions search for thread on "How to Complete a Mission" (may be stickied).

Thank you!

So the key for these "patrol at the place X", South China Sea or Luzov Straight or similar is to stay within 50 miles from the center of the "star & binoculars" -symbol for 96 hours straigh.

I'll search for how to complete mission for more info.

In the stock game, it's 100miles (or 160km in metric) and 48 hours if I recall correctly.

In mods it can vary. In TMO I had missions to patrol 108 miles for 76 hours, or 108miles for just 24 hours as well. So mods can give a little more variety.

Every objective may have a different time on station and/or an area to remain within. Pay close attention to your new orders. I tend to write the coodinates and time on station down, so that if I come back later after saving, I know what to expect. It may help to note the time you arrive on station as well, so you know about how much longer you have before completion of the objective. BTW, does anyone know if there is a way, such as a keyboard command, to pull those new (current) orders up to review them again? I've never been able to, and wonder, why not?

In TMO they are stored in the comm-log. Try there.

It also stores those messages that order you to maintain radio silence.
