Vista reminds me of WIN2K (what WinXP is now)

I remember those who swore by Win2K, not going to upgrade to XP.

I'm currently using 2 version of Vista on separate systems, one Vista Business before SP1, and just recently Vista Ultimate.

I was amazed at how this new core design was so much more ready for the market then previous versions. The driver update response was quick from 3rd party vendors, but the main core drivers were up to date enough to run the system.

UAC was a real pain but a single tweak leaves it on without the prompt. The new explorer takes some time to get use to, but now I see its advantage compared to the old File Manager.

I'm going to enjoy Vista's next level 'Windows 7'

My last sound card was an Audigy but now I just use the on board sound systems. I even tried the card in my old system and preferred the on board. weird.

Yes, they definitely ran back to the marketing department and started the leaks and new GUI so they could sell more product. As far as the layoffs go, just look around....

I'm running XP, bought SH4 first month it was out, purchased SH4 U-Boat and have NEVER seen a blue screen. In fact the only time I think the game crashes is when I accidentally push the shift-F11 keys for a pic ( should be Ctrl-F11 ) and have to go to desk top and pick up game again.

Sorry but I'm an old putter and will stick with XP for a long time.

There is no argument here as to what everyone else has as that is his/her business.

So whatever works for you go for it. :up:

I've been a die-hard XP supporter but after using the Windows 7 beta for a little over a week, I have to say I might give up my XP disk before they pry it out of my cold dead fingers (if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and a kidney).

I haven't tried it on an older machine, but I just may do that to test the scalability that I've been reading about. I've read that the direction M$ is trying to head is the same operating system no matter what the platform (from cell phones to servers). I've read a few reviews that claim that it runs well on older systems.

I know for a fact that it is just as responsive (if not more so) than my tweaked out XP install and I haven't touched a thing performance wise on it. It also seems to be very stable. I've been throwing everything I can at it and only had one instance where I had to go into safe mode to get out of a problem (and that was because I didn't heed several warnings not to install a driver because of known problems-I'm just hard headed).

Really not bashing XP, I still support it on my network at work. But the Vista bash is really over rated.

BSOD's are no more that I know of.

I have been running Vista 64 for three weeks. No issues at all. In fact, I like it a lot. Very stable. Finding drivers is not an issue. Runs SH4 and CoD WaW no problems. There was issues of course two years ago but like any new OS, it was riddled with problems. Now that I look back at XP that I use at work and my old computer at home, I find it drab. I will tell you, if you have the right hardware and an open mind, Vista is excellent. I did build my PC knowing Vista was hog, so I fed the hog. He is fat and happy.

As for Windows 7, it apparently is already stable and the beta users are not having any major issues that I have read. Basically, it is faster than Vista but all the same, a more polished Vista. The 'run as admin' crap is basically gone in Windows 7. Depending on price, I might move up to 7. Time will tell upon offical release which should be around July this year.

I know that I've been hanging on to XP like my last dollar bill but I really think I'll try "Windows 7" if and when it comes out but I'm rather chicken to test the beta. ( I'll let you people do it. :lol: )

Course right now with my old 5 year old Alienware with an "Asus" A7N8X Deluxe motherboard I can't get any higher with the hardware. AMD Athlon XP 3200+ which is just 2.19 GHZ, 3 GIG Ram, 7800 GS AGP 256 MB video card. Kind of tops the old girl off for now, so when "Win 7" comes along I'll tear it down and rebuild. :yep:

I try and hang on till Windows 7, as XP does me fine and works with everything I got on my rig. Vista could survive, but I don't need my computer suffering anymore than it is at the moment.

Spent quite a few hours researching and trying different things. I finally gave up and told the owner that machines that need to access the file bank will have to be XP unless he upgrades ALL the machines to vista. That dident go over so well :rotfl:
