You are witnessing the 'celebrity' status assigned to Obama. Unfortunate, yes, the news and tabloids will run any news concerning Obama. So if he breaks wind in the rose garden, you will hear about it. Soon there will be some kid on Youtube crying tears and saying "leave Obama alone"

Last time I checked this place was not a buffer for Freeperville or Duzy.

This is not news. Especially on a military tech simulation forum.

Yes.

Well unless the wifes demanded that the piss poor salary goes towards TP and other items.

Funny thing is. Being President is one of the lowest paid jobs on the planet. Yes almost everything is taken care for you. But you are working for less than minimum wage when you calculate how much the president works every day over the year.

Not to mention it is expected to use some of that for charity and other goodies.

Surely, you don't honestly think that the office of President is one of the lowest paid jobs on the planet? I assume that you're using hyperbole.

Just for fun, let's do the math. Currently the president's salary is about $400,000 per year not including expense accounts. In order for him to make less than minimum wage (hourly, $5.75 or so, is it now?) he would have to
work about 76,000 hours in a given year. A calendar year only contains about 8,760 hours.
I understand your enthusiasm for Obama, but I doubt even he could accomplish that feat.;)
Even if we take away 3/4 of his income for taxes, charity, etc. and fail to take into account private income, he would be making about $11.oo an hour if he worked every hour of every day for a year, which is still well above the world average, and certainly above minimum wage.

But that's neither here nor there. Honestly, I could care less if he gets payed $1.00 an hour and cures cancer. It's a public office, and I expect accountability for my tax dollars. Admittedly, the government does a fairly good job of publishing Federal expenditures and the like for concerned taxpayers, but doesn't do such a good job of explaining how they manage to make everything cost so much and yield such unacceptable results.

Don't think about it too much, though, or you'll become a conservative:p (sorry, sorry, I kid:D )

As is implied by this particular forum's title; General topics :D

(Sorry, ZS, I'm just playin'. We're cool, right?)

You people NOT from Illinois ... you can not begin to understand how things work that the "appoined one" or Mesiah hails from. Example:

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield, Illinois. One was from Chicago, another from Tennessee, and a third from Kentucky.

They all went with Governor Rod Blagojevich to examine the fence.

The Tennessee contractor took out a tape measure and did some measuring, then worked some figures with a pencil. "Well," he said, "I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

The contractor from Kentucky also did some measuring and figuring and then said, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

The Chicago contractor didn't measure or figure, but he leaned over to Governor Blagojevich and whispered, $2,700."

Governor Blagojevich incredulously whispered back, "You didn't even measure like the other guys. How did you come up with such a high figure?"

The Chicago contractor whispered back, "$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you, and we hire that guy from Kentucky to fix the fence."

And that, my friends, is how it all works in Illinois politics!

Another example, your NEW U.S Secratary for Education came from the Chicago Public School system as Board President - has done nothing, did nothing, and the schools are in Chicago are going down the tubes.

We are going to change America; yea ... right.

Don't know about his other policies, but I like the sound of baning public servents from becoming lobbyists for three years after leaving office!:yep:

Wish they would do that here in Australia:roll:

I was about to refer to this myself, and that I think it to be a very important thing indeed, when I read your post. You are right. Lobbyism is a cancer inside the bones of democracy - and it kills it.

Freezing of wages in times of financial desaster and high debts only points at the fincial discipline for public budgets that he has said in advance he wants to make sure. that he starts at the top with that, may be a symbolic act only - but one with a message indeed.

To save on new thread costs (they're mad expensive, 'less you buy in bulk), here's a rather impressive Executive Order.

Why not go ahead and freeze ALL goverment employees' salary nationwide including congress, for the duration? Now that would actually be doing something.
