So, what if we rescue a uboot that has been historically sunk..?

At the moment, im at grid DF67 to DF68. Just a few kilometers west of the border.
Its 06:58, 27th of April 1944.
Just 6 hours ago i sunk an unreported Task Force (5 Destroyers, 1 Escort Carrier)
on grid DF65.

Now, according to u-boat.net this uboat i have in front of me, is sunk with all hands lost by the Task Force i destroyed some hours ago.

Now what? :D If someone has a comment or some info on this tell me cause im quite confused now.:lurk:

PS The sub is most likely the Type XIV, U-488 Milk Cow which was historically sunk in these waters. (http://www.uboat.net/boats/u488.htm)

It can also be the U-490 which was also a Milk Cow, sunk near Azores a few days later. http://www.uboat.net/boats/u490.htm

Edit: Just a day before i recieved a message from this sub saying it was attacked.
So if its u448 here, i can slide up to Azores and try to rescue the other sub. :D

Those messages are actually just for atmosphere. You probably won't find a milkcow under attack. :hmm: Would be cool if the events were scripted, though.

Besides milkcows, other subs are active hunters or just for atmosphere too?
For example if i report a convoy somewhere, should i wait for reinforcements or im on my own?

If you report a convoy and are within range of a friendly airbase, there's a small chance that you may see an air attack on it. In all my time playing this game, I've only seen it twice. Once on my way to Norway, and once in the Med I saw some Italian planes attack a convoy I reported in. As far as other U-boats, sadly no. That's the one feature that I think is the most glaring omission in SH3.

As was stated before, if you're playing GWX the radio messages from other u-boats mentioning convoys spotted and wolfpacks are purely for atmosphere.

You will on occasion receive messages of historical events that are scripted into GWX.....this is not 'eye candy'

Hmm, so maybe i can change the tide of historical battles to our side, win them and
eventually win the war!

This is the theory at least, im not sure how it will work practically...

Reprting a convoy only gets you a reply that you are alone and no help is forthcoming. Unlike AOD where sometimes when attacking a convoy one could see markers of other u-boats attacking the same convoy and sometimes visually.

Seems that what older games lacked in graphics they made up for with depth and features. :hmm:

The reality being.....whatever you sink will respawn the next time you boot the game up

Tis always the case I'm afraid.....once out of rendering range it will respawn should you approach again.
