Oh how the times have changed. What a great speech. I chuckled at the part when he called out the people that said "America is doomed."
...and we're still talking about terrorism.:dead:
You continue to bore me beyond belief....

Contrast that great Reagan speech with today's inaugural speech about nothing in any specific terms. We still don't know exactly what Mr. Obama intends to do. We do know that he will proceed with a continuation of Mr. Bush's policies, but to what extent we don't know. Yes. Mr. Reagan is a hard act to follow and really gave us the real Change and Hope we truly needed. If you look at Obama's version of "Change and Hope", it's merely the tired old axioms of government growth at the expense of the individual. I certainly hope that Mr. Obama becomes a pragmatist as he moves into the Oval Office and truly seeks solutions that work. If he does, his voters stand to be very disheartened. And I will give him the credit he deserves. I'm not holding my breath. We'll wait and see.
Speaking of terrorism, I found it odd that Obama spoke to his voters today like terrorism was something new that needs confrontation. This was odd, considering the lefties have trashed Mr. Bush for the past 8 years as he attempted and succeeded in keeping terrorists at bay. Against threats against this nations interests over the last 8 years. And who fought George Bush the entire way??? Who childishly called him "war criminal" because of it??? Who compared our troops in harms way to Nazi soldiers?? Yep, watching the hypocrisy and outrageous intellectual dishonesty over the next 4 years is going to be interesting and funny in an odd kind of way.

Wanna lighten up your day? Ask a lefty who believes that Obama will "save us", why they believe it.
They literally have no idea. "Hope" is not a reason.
Four more years of this, gonna take a pass on political threads methinks.

He is a gifted speaker, no doubt. His baisc speech on religion, and the Berlin speech were brilliant.
Expectations in the man are exaggerated, also no doubt on that. But he has already changed the general mood substantially, and for the better - also no doubt. The problems mounted against him, are monumental, it is impossible to solve all the problems in just 4 or 8 years - maybe even to solve just half of them. But some things could be done, and more important: a basis could be laid so that more will change for the better after those 4 or 8 years.
Let's wait in silence, observe and listen a bit, submariners.

Agreed, Reagan was a great public performer, he had the advantage of his acting career in that way I guess ;)
Obamas speech was quite good too, as I have already said, very blunt and not very sugar coated, laying out the problems that have to be surmounted. But it's too early to tell anything. Come back to this thread in a year and see what happens.

I think you may be asking for a bit much there Skybird given the track record here on the forum.
There have been so many dour and at times crackpot predictions by some members on what an Obama presidency will entail. And yet still the hits just keep on coming. You have to laugh though. :D
Good post by the way. :yep:

Hardly, as film actor he was not even mediocre, but simply lousy, imo.

Haha, that's a must watch! Obama is continuing Bush's rhetoric, lol. "Hope Day One" :rotfl:
Hey, at least we can smile that the comedians are treating Obama with the same humor they hurled at Bush

Reagan was a good speaker, due in part to his acting ability, but do you really think he was that effective of a leader? I mean, he did start all the deregulation crap (granted that Clinton did go along with it later on), tried to break the unions, and really didn't do anything significantly good for our country...

Franklin!:D
I always think back to the story of the reporters asking him if he liked being president. And he, being the way he was, threw back his head proudly and said, in that commanding voice of his, "I love it!"
