This is vary interesting.
I didnt know there was a group of trees in the shape of a swastika in germany.:hmm:

On August 9, 1939, Hermann Göring boasted about the strength of the German Luftwaffe. He said "Not a single bomb will fall on the Ruhr. If an enemy plane reaches the Ruhr, my name is not Hermann Göring, you can call me Meier." He even boasted that Berlin would never be subjected to air attack from the enemy. Hitler also proclaimed "Just give me ten years and you will not recognize your cities" For once he spoke the truth!

lol, yea, like the text says. "you will not recognize your cities.

To help rub in the irony, some American engineers put up signs in bombed-out occupied areas in both English and German. ;) Ouch.

actually the first shots fired in September 1939 were not on Westarplatte(as stated in that page). Polish soldiers enagaged Germans probably on 31st of August when Dv. Brandenburg attacked a few polish border patrols and took prisoners. And the first city to be bombarded was Wielun, at sth like 4:15-4:30 am on 1st Sep.

some additional which were not said: when Churchil was in USSR in 1943 he showed people(russians) the famous sign V with his fingers. But they had no idea what in meant because in Russian "victory" starts with "P". So they took those two fingers as a promise of making the second front.
sth about Austrian Jews:(this story is only confirmed in one book that I've read so dunno how much truth lies there): sister of S.Freaud was in on of the transports to Treblinka. When the train arrived there she was completely shocked and refused to follow the rest. She ordered one of the soldiers to take her to the commandant of the camp F.Stangl. He was also shocked beacuse he new Freud as a psychologist so they went to see Stangl. He told her some "fairy-tale" and took her baggage and showed her way to toilet or sth like this. The end is obvious...
