AC-XX, Mini?

Who doesn't love those videos of an AC-130 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130#Upgrades) firing down destruction on the enemy? (especially that Artillery piece) However, they are getting long in the tooth, and the AC-XX requirement has been out there. Now there is talk of converting C-27 (http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/AC-XX-Gunship-Lite-A-C-27J-Baby-Spooky-05001/)s. Comments? Ideas?

Would a C-17 be a good choice? Faster, carries a heavier load (better for weapons and ammo), proven airframe and the manufacturer would love to keep the lines open for a bit longer:hmm:
