In early December, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, announced the final amended version (http://www.ilaalerts.org/UM/T.asp?A1.2.4454.11.3690875)of a change to rules on carrying firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The change will restore the right of law-abiding gun owners to transport and carry concealed firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, according to the laws of the states in which these public lands are located.
The new rule, which takes effect today, allows Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry concealed firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges in states that recognize their permits. The new rule will also put an end to the patchwork of regulations that governed different lands managed by different federal agencies. In the past, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands allowed the carrying of firearms, while lands managed by DOI did not.

Why the bad face? It's about time! This was the dumbest rule on the entire books.
So let me get this straight, people that have had an FBI background check you want to deny a weapon into state parks? At the same time, the criminals specifically go to state parks in the past because they know they can have a gun and no one else will and can conduct crimes without hindrance?
I'm just trying to get your point. I look at things from a logical standpoint, and the only reason I can see for your dislike is an illogical one that is based on emotion and not reality. So please share.

I always carry my model 329 when trapzing the wilderness. 305 grain Corbon penetrators. Yep! That's the ticket...

Honestly, you'd be in more danger from getting lost than escaped convicts. What the deal with even bothering? Even the mass media hasn't reported anything like convicts making a living deep inside a forest. Apart from Alaska with the Grizzlies and whatnot, you don't really need a gun (flare guns withstanding), and you don't need to conceal a weapon from a crazy 1 tonne bear.

It's about freakin time! I'm sick of hearing about these gun control weenies trying to pounce on my right to carry, if a single one of them had to defend their home with a handgun I'm willing to bet cold hard cash they'd start singing a different tune.

I don't know how things are were you live, but you DO NOT want to go in the national park were I live, at night time, especially off of a major trail, or in even during day time, way off of a trail. Not because of escaped convicts so much, but criminals around here use the more remote parts of the park in the mountains over here, to produce marijuana, and meth.

What do you think motivated them to allow firearms in the first place? Could it be that thing you said that can't happen? The very word you used 'chance' says that you admit it is a possibilty. I've spoken to the people that bad things have happened too. They thought along the your lines didn't need anything because what was the chance? Well they like others found out one day what the chances were first hand. Wife raped & murdered, husband forced to witness it beaten and left for dead., lives ruined foreever. Nothing he could do against overwhelming odds. IT DOES HAPPEN. Though chances are it will not happen to one of us but will you be RESPONSIBLE enought to protect your family if it does? Or will you like the husband just be forced to watch it. JERK
If you don't like the idea then don't carry it's as simple as that.

From the heart I am very sorry I was the jerk. Just a very hot topic for me. I've dealt with the survivors of such assaults. The same ones who thought it would never happen to them. Who lost so much that was dear to them because they were unable or unwilling to defend themselves.
