Here I was minding my own buisness floating around the West end of the North channel around Scappa , Date Feb 20 1940.

Bdu sends me a report of an enemy attack group heading North, just West of Ireland. I had already been on patrol and used all but 4 torpedos. I set up an intercept.

18 hours later during a sound check dive I hear LOTS of enemy prop swishings... heading my direction and closing. This MUST be them!!

As I sit there I realize I have a DD off my stern about 3km, and 7km to my port bow I have another DD and....get this..... The HMS HOOD, HMS RODNEY, and another Battleship I didnt ID being as I needed to quickly reset my steam torps to medium speed, 12m depth, and fire being as the HMS HOOD was already at Bearing 358. Oh and there were also 4 more DDs. Two at the head of the Group, one waaayy off to the other flank and One at the back (for a total of 5)

So I set all my torps as above, opened tubes, and let loose (thinking at 7,200m there was very little hope of hitting the HOOD). As soon as they let loose, PERISCOPE DOWN, TURN HEADING 315 (parallel to the battlegroup and between the lone DD that was off my stern) Make your depth 125m (I was in shallow water..I like to gamble :yep: 136m was the water depth here), Rig for Silent Running.

After what seemed an enternity I hear ONE explosion...thinking probably a early detonation or maybe a DD got in the way. Then I hear TWO, THREE, FOUR!!! "Shes going down Sir" I look at my log. 48,000 tons HMS HOOD!! YES!

Now the hunt begins on the surface..... or so I thought. The DDs could never get a fix on me because I launched my torps, dove and went silent, and had abour 3 min to start my escape. THE TOMMIES NEVER KNEW WHERE TO LOOK!!

So Klaus Meine manuvered his IXB out away from the befuddled DDs, as the Battleships wove thier escape routes .... if they only knew I was out of torpedos....DAMN!

So...what historical group was this guys.... being Feb 1940 I was curious. Too bad the Bismark will still be sunk by the HOOD LOL.

Well done! Scoring 4 hits from 7200m is not bad. :D

Nope, the only warships I've sunk so far are a Black Swan frigate and a Southampton cruiser. Probably too late by now for the Hood, but maybe I'll stumble across a Renown or Illustrious...

(By the way, I thought the Hood historically sunk by the Bismarck/Prinz Eugen, and not the other way round? :hmm:)

True yes... the Hood was sunk by the Bismark... I got it backwards. Later the Bismark was sunk in a battle involving the HMS Rodney (DAMN should have sunk him instead  ) and King George V (I bet that was the third Battleship I saw...double DAMN!)

I'm sure this is just a typo.

For the record, though, the Bismarck was partially disabled by planes from the Ark Royal and sank after a one-sided battle with King George V, Rodney, destroyers, and cruisers. The Rodney was within 3-5km at the end and is believed to have inflicted most of the damage. Torpedoes from the Dorsetshire may have been the coup de grâce.

Give that man an RK!  The largest warship that I've attacked so far was a Southhampton class cruiser. I put 2 torpedoes into her which did some real damage (she was on fire & listing) but she managed to get away.:damn: :damn: I've destroyed several Black Swan frigates. They're nice & fragile: 1 well placed shot under the keel and they go down very quickly...:D

Thanks guys.... This was my first Battleship sinking EVER in SH3 (GWX or vanilla). I have sank carriers around Gibraltar... so it was a real treat :)

It is amazing how much damage the Bismark took before going down. I just posted what was considered to be the final ship to hit Bismark and sink her. I find it interesting that the 2 dives that went to what they believed was the bismark found no evidence of torpedo damage... but that may just mean they didnt find the hull area where the torpedos may have hit.

IIRC they didn't because the aft end sheered off because of flooding and damage.

We believe that part of the stern collapsed onto the rudders, as happened with the Prinz Eugen and armored cruiser Lützow, or was damaged in such a way that it was impossible to steer the ship by either manual or mechanical means. It would have been necessary to cut away structure which was covered by surging water. In any event, the repair of such damage was beyond the capability and material provided aboard the Bismarck, even if weather and battle conditions had been more favorable. The stern structure was massively damaged and eventually failed.

good shot indeed, I never succeed to hit a capital ship from 1000 meters and plus, because the ship avoid torpedo, but from less than a 1000 meters:up:, I sunk two Revenge, one in stock SH3 and another yesterday in GWX3. In GWX3 Revenge was in a convoy, she tried to avoid me but didn't escape:hmm:.

Actually, its heard that the Germans scuttled their own ship.
A guy who dived there said that none of the torpedoes or shells pierced through the second inner armor layer.
