hello
is there a way to only target the destroyer in a convoy ?
(not using the "2000 ft" option ?)

Well, ....not to sound like a smartass, you just target them only, otherwise we need a little more descriptive info before help or advice can be given.

sorry:oops: ,i mean you lining up for a torp attack on a battleship and letting your crew shoot with the deck gun holding off destroyers

You'd have to select the nearest (or most dangerous) DD with your binoculars so the gun crew will target it. After it's destroyed (if it doesn't kill you first...), I think the gun crew moves on to the next closest target.

However...I don't see attacking a task force on the surface going well for you...the cruisers and battleships have functional weapons and won't hesitate to send you to the bottom...in tiny bits... Did I mention they outrange you?

Now I've only started playing SH4 (OM) again recently but lets get this straight you are attacking a convoy with a battleship escort and multiple destroyers ON THE SURFACE??????? :hmm:

Heroic but foolhardy Herr Kaleun! I'll toast you and your crew at the memorial service......

If you want a shoot out with destroyers, the safest way ist to cripple a ship (it ain't moving any more), surface close alongside (only when "She's going down." hasn't popped up) and start blasting away.
With TMO1.55 @ 100% i managed once to cripple a Fuso, surfaced directly at her side (she couldn't aim her guns at such an angle) and started firing at her consorts. They wouldn't return fire, so it cost them dearly. 4 DD's sunk by gunfire (3 Ashaio + 1 Fubuki), 1 Takao immobilised ( 7 4" shells in the boilers were enough) and later torpedoed and the Fuso also finished of at last with a torpedo. All that with a S 18.
You might call it justice that 2 DD's got me 400 miles short of Sorabaya.

i know it's almost idiotic to do but i was trying to lure them away from the convoy, deal with the destroyers first and then get back at attacking the convoy submerged .
while i was getting the destroyers attention and at the same time i get a clear shot with a torp i can take it without worrying about the deck gun .
so if i understand correctly i "aim" with the binoculars ?
grtz

Yes, center your binoculars on your target, hit the space bar, and the gun crew will fire at that target till it sinks or they die. As long as you don't care that most of your shells will be wasted, you can concentrate on a torpedo attack. This can also be used against planes (the AA gun crew handles planes). Note that shooting at the DDs will not discourage them...they'll still charge and ram you, shooting as they come.

That shouldn't be a problem. Just run submerged at more than 1/3 speed ... preferably away from the DDs. They will catch up.

2000 ft.? the button in deck -gun command next to "target hull " i think (only attack targets within 2000ft. )( but thats too close for confort)
