VIIB Used to be my favorite, agile and versitile, and a deck gun with lots of ammo. But the range is very limited and 14 torps somethimes just isn't enough for a long convoy fight. The VIIC is basically a less agile VIIB with longer range. In my personal opinion, The reducion in agility wasn't made up with the addiional range.

As soon as I perfected my evasion mothods in a IX, IXB become my favorite.

Now my favorite is the IXC, the fuel load will enable me to to get anywhere in reasonable speed, have tons of fun, and go back for another patrol quickly. (Thereby racking up career tonnage).

I don't like the tpye II series for their lack of a deck gun. Although I have started a number of careers (including the current one) with it.

I find acouple of minor operational problem with the XXI (Such as the periscope not going high enough about the hull, the boat will expose itself in rough seas at p-depth), but more importantly. Using a XXI will spoiled me to the point that I (almost) forget how to operate other boats.

I have really little experience with the VIIc/42 to have an opinion.

IXD2, in my opionion, is a death trap.

That's a tough one... I guess I have several favorite boats.

The Type VII[b] is what I've used the most, so I'm most comfortable with it. The torpedo stores can run out pretty quickly, but the deck gun is there for a reason. It's also fast, and agile as far as submarines go, and it's just generally well rounded. Take care of her and she will take care of you, as they say.

But for all out fun, the Type XXI scores 100/100 in my book. About 18 knots submerged top speed, an entire hovercraft's worth of eels, and gigantic batteries plus schnorkel means lots of happy times. Oh, and homing torpedoes. :arrgh!: Too bad it only arrives on the scene in 1944... But yeah, it spoils you pretty fast. Any earlier and the game would turn into a turkey shoot. Still, anytime I just want to unwind, nothing beats an Elektroboot!

my heart truly lies in the VIIC and VIIC 41. Pretty agile, fair/good amount of torps, good range but no IX in comparison , and i always survive the longest in my career using a version of a VIIC. Currently I'am using a IXB in my new career, so we'll see how i do...

Those newfangled IXs will be the end of you all! My VII has served me well, and I'm not giving it up for anything! Not even those fancy-shmancy elektroboots! No siree.

As I use it the most, my vote goes for the type VII/B. During the happy times of the early war period (sep '39 till late '40), this boat is best suited as you can use the deck gun with little risk. And even though it has a smaller torpedo load compared to the the type IX, you can still get a decent tonnage haul.

Type VIIC/41 for me,IF I live long enough to get it,its the pinnacle of typeVII design and snorkel equipped its all you need to get you through till the bitter end,I'm afraid I don't really count the TypeXXI,only a very few saw front operational service and only one made a real(dummy)attack on an enemy ship so even when I use it its only as a fantasy senario, what if?:hmm: missions if you like. The TypeIX class of boats are really good early on in the war but later they're bulk plays against them to a certain degree,as more aircraft come hunting you you need to dive that much quicker and more often:nope:My favourite TypeIX boat would be the IXC/40,you have the range, firepower and the extra depth abilities, all essential for your typeIX career:yep:as for the TypeIXD2,as someone has already its an underwater death sentence,it may be quick on the surface, but when it comes to diving or trying to manoeuvre the beast underwater you are thinking in glacier like speeds:nope:its extra eels just can't be justified as a an acceptable payoff for its sluggish handling, and for that reason,I'm out;):arrgh!:Just my humble opinion:up:

I take what I'm given, and I run multiple careers, so I've driven everything at one time or another. Still, nothing is quite as ducky as a Type II.

I voted for the XXI only because its SOOO much fun.

But if I could have another vote it would be the IX here.... I LOVE having TWO torpedos in the stern. I have sunk many a Large Merchant with my stern torps (can Type VII users say that... especially when using GWX) and when the chips were down and the DD's would go away, I have sunk my far share of escorts with an aft fan shot...allowing me to slip away!

You know about ahead slow dontcha? But the real trick is to lose weight to make it even more efficient.

Start the patrol by expending all your torpedoes, it will free you several tonnes, and allow you to perhaps weeks of extra patrol time off the US coast.

Then, line up the torpedomen, and shoot them. There is no need for that dead weight.

Since without torpedoes, you won't be attacking anything, you should immediately remove the periscopes. Remove hydrophones and other unneccesary equipment. Keep a deck gun handy in case a roving destroyer spots you.

Make sure your crew are well drilled in the act of rushing up to the bridge. Make sure anyone who can get down from there speedily is put in engine duty. We do not want them having prospects of retreating. The slower men will be convinved that they will not make it down in time, and be compelled to fight.

Make sure that the kitchen is converted to an extra gas tank, and instead feed the men with caught fish and fermented diesel oil. Do not under any circumstances feed your sailors battery acid.

Remove all clothing after you get to open sea, the men do not need to be humiliated (or glorified, depending on their point of view) in view of friends and prospective baby-makers. Homosexual feelings will not occur due to them being to tired to accumulate "desire"

That should let you get more bang from your VIIb, good hunting!
