I'm 64 ... my daughter turns 44 today and my son turned 41 saturday.

I remember today 44 years ago when I drove my wife to the Army Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco to give birth to my daughter.

It was like 6am in the morning and I ran every red light there was. My submarine then was the USS Salmon SS-573 was in dry dock going through an overhaul at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

At least I still have a memory ... I think :-?

Turned 47 last week. That night my beloved wife found the first ever grey hair on my head and without warning swiftly removed it <ouch!>.

Reminded me of the delightful ode " To The First Grey Hair"

I spied a white hair lurking in my beard,
And straightaway plucked it thence,
"Thou art brave", it sneered,
"'Gainst a lone scout - quite brave.
But wilt thou be
As plucky when my troop comes, seeking me?"

So, discounting Konovolovs 340 the average age for this set of subsimmers is 35.70833. The two most common birth years are 1987 and 1994 with the mean birth year sitting nicely in line with the average at 1973. 1994 is also the most recent birth year and 1939 is the earliest birth year.

Well Mates,
I'm glad to see that you guys love submarines as much as us true submariners,,,Geetrue, Sailor Steve, and others who have been there, have actually lived on a diesel boat and known the deep, crush depth, and blowing sanitary tanks to sea. Being a Non Qual, being a Polywog, going without showers, Hot Bunking, Mess Cook, Lookout, and finally a true Sub Sailor. So I say to you all, if you want to be almost a Sub Sailor go to your nearest Army/Navy Surplus Store and buy yourself a set of "Dolphins". Play Silent Hunter 3 or 4, then head down to your nearest Bar or Pub. Take your precious "Dolphins" and find the biggest glass in the bar. Put your Dolphins in the bottom of the glass and then add every sort of alcoholic beverage they have into the glass.....you know, Vodka, Rum, Gin, Bourbon, Irish Whiskey, Beer of any kind, and whatever else you can find. Now to become almost a true Sub Sailor you must drink it down and catch your Dolphins in your teeth. Until then.......Well your all just babies playing a game that your Fathers actually lived ..................DBF (Diesel Boats Forever)

I knew someone round here would be interested. Looks like we got some more data: with an increase in the average age to 36.05769, thanks to the Steve and RickC 58s. 1987 and 1994 remain the most popular birth years.

I think it's your ears, that keep growing.

On a similar vein I did once have a conversation with a fellow medieval re-enactor of advancing years, who in reply to my suggestion that he slow down a bit said,"No not at all! When I was a young man I used to wake up with a morning glory that I couldn't push down with two hands, since I turned sixty I can push it down with one, si Im at least twice as strong as I was!"

BTW I'm 50 until June when I might just turn 49 again.
