Like all of you I waited for GOLD with a happy heart.

Finally the day arrived, 12/26, and I DL'ed Gold to a storage drive
and cleaned all traces of SHIII off of my C (Win XP) drive.

I then reloaded virgin SHIII (Direct2Drive)1.4 patched
back on to my C drive.

With joy in my heart I started the Gold DL and had a fatal
Disk crash (not gold's fault). Panic, what too do, what too do.

In a Gold induced panic I contacted Alienware (I have an
Alienware gaming machine). After 4 hours, and 3 scotch & sodas, with
one of their agents (at least one hour trying to understand what
lingo they were speaking) we reloaded to Xp & then Vista
upgrade. Great. Gold here I come.

Not a chance. As we were loading drivers from a support disk
there was a big explosion (like a deck gun) and my optical drive
blew along with the support disk. DID (just like my patrols).

Alienware sent me a new optic drive and drivers disk which arrived
on 01/11. Called Alienware after installing the optic drive (same
drill as above) and we installed drivers. Thank Gold all went well.

I reloaded SHIII and then GWX gold & Commander to Vista without a
problem. I then loaded a ton of goody mods via JSGM without a
problem.

My first patrol (peace time) I explored all the great additions to GWX.
My second patrol was wartime and I sunk 8 merchants and one
tug boat.

OMG - what a great GWX development team we have. I also use Poul's
sound mod & love the realisim it adds.

After two bottles of scotch & an almost divorce because I became
a brute to everyone I am now well into GWX Gold.

I must agree with you, Poul's sounds are some of the best on SH3. He has a special skill for the audio effects stuff.

Ouch! I'm glad to hear that things eventually worked out. :yep:

I feel your pain though. I have SH3 + GWX running on linux via wine. That took a lot of long hours and a few pints of brandy to get working smoothly.

It was the soda, not the scotch. :D
