Hey Neal, how's the progress coming along on Seawolf Park? Do you guys need any more volunteers to work out there for a weekend?:hmm:

Any photos of the restoration would be cool.

Hey guys, pick a weekend (other than the 4th) and let's get together and have another work party. Mookie and I are local, Rip said he was interested. James says he is interested.

Chad
06-16-09, 07:30 PM
Hey Neal,

Talked to James a bit about the work trip. We've got a $215 airfare thing so I'd be able to make it down there and back without any real problem except lodging and transportation if you decide to go ahead and do this.

When you get a date in your head (at least 3 weeks ahead so I can ask off of work) let me know and I'll see what we can do. James will post more later :salute:

nikimcbee

I'm all over this!:woot: Southwest has tix to hobby for....$139~$205.:hmmm::woot:

So....Hotel d'Cavalla?:hmmm:
how many days?

Can we play your SH5 demo disk?:03:

Will I be shot in the rump with a paintball?:timeout::haha:

I think I can manage this trip. The later it occurs, the better, since I'm laid off from my regular job and trying to save money, but I can make anything after the 4th work. That is assuming that you'll let me crash at your place again, Neal. I'm kind of getting down to the wire on money for the September meet.
I'm also going to try to book a cheap flight for Chad using my stepfather's American Airlines benefits. It's a first-come first-serve thing, so again, the more time to prepare, the better.
Finally, I'd like to know what we are going to be doing, exactly, if you have any information on that. If there is going to be any kind of structural repair or welding involved, I'm going to have to brush up on my welding skills. I can do TiG, MiG, and arc-welding, but it has been years since I applied any of those skills. I can also use an oxyacetylene torch with a fair degree of competence, and am capable of performing basic electrical repairs(mostly limited to basic wiring and circuit troubleshooting). Of course, if they just need another fair hand with a shovel, or someone to do heavy lifting, I haven't forgotten how to do that. One does not easily forget the skills taught by filling a few tens of thousands of sandbags.:DL

Will I be shot in the rump with a paintball?:timeout::haha:

Only if you run like a coward!:DL IIRC you took the last hit square in the chest like a good soldier. :salute:

I should be up for most any date. Depending on my workload and the lack of floor sleeping space at Unkel's I can go there and return without going all the way to Houston. Although I am hoping to get a little shipmate sea story time and stuff if all goes well.

Really looking forward to spending a little time getting the lady back open to the public as well.

The CHF added some forums to their website (http://www.cavalla244.org) as well. Of course I have yet to make it there to signup.

Rip

edit to add: Or even stay on the boat. That would be cool. The way I figure it they still owe me a night.:salute:

But absolutely no cranking or hot racking! :lurk:

nikimcbee
06-19-09, 02:11 PM
Depending on the week, I could spend 4 to 5 days there? I get 4 days off, every other week.:salute:

Chad
06-21-09, 12:31 AM
Well how about the third week in July, 2 weeks after the 4th?

That's the 10th, 11th, and 12th of July.

That or the next week would be PERFECT for me.

Let's hear what you guys think :salute:

06-21-09, 12:42 PM
Those dates work for me. I think this is how I'd work that week: I could fly in on the 8th and take sunday the 12th off to fly out: working days 9~11th. How does that sound:hmmm:

nikimcbee
06-21-09, 02:15 PM
@ Neal, do you know what kind of work we'll be doing?

Onkel Neal
06-21-09, 03:55 PM
Ok, I have sent a message to John McMichael asking about holding a field day July 10-11-12. Chad called and said he could attend, so I will tell John there will be 4~8 of us. I will make sure this works for his planning and ask what kind of work he can set up for us.

Chad
06-22-09, 11:26 AM
After being on the SS Drum, just seeing the Cavalla and Stewart again will be nice. From the looks of it on the Cavalla cam, it appears everything is tilted the right side up, right :hmmm:

nikimcbee
06-22-09, 02:53 PM
Any news on the work? If we do it that week, we need to hurry and decide si I can get plane tickets. It's too bad we couldn't push it out 2 weeks, the plane ticket prices drop a lot.:D

Onkel Neal
06-22-09, 03:01 PM
Ok, I called and spoke with Bille, she said they got my e-mail and they will let us know by Weds. They have their grandson down, so she said they will know about the July 10-12 weekend then, hopefully.

06-23-09, 03:34 AM
I'm good with that weekend. I may bring my daughter, her friend and a straggler or two. If that happens I may look for a room closer to Galveston so they can hit the beach some. Of course I would make them come spend a little time helping out the "old dudes" working on their ancient war toys.

There is plenty of work to do and not a lot of people to do it. You mentioned from the 10th to the 12th…….does this mean there will be folks here to work on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday? If so, how early Friday, and how late Sunday?
Thanks, and .looking forward to seeing you.
