Interesting to note. The PS3 - well, about as played as much as a Gamecube. The GC had some decent games, but its dying along with the PS3 I'm guessing, unless you use the PS3 to play movies. PS3 is not even used as much as an original XBOX, and that's saying something.

The Nintendo Wii is played less than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 is played less than the original Xbox...

No surprise there. The 360 had a year on the Wii, 2 years on the PS3 and the PS3's price is out of the reach of some gamers. I know its the only reason I haven't bought a PS3, well that and I'm stingy with my cash.

I'll bite.:D

The Nintendo Wii is played less than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 is played less than the original Xbox...in the US.
LOL, fixed that for you. Propaganda is a marvelous thing.

I shall give you a reason why the 360 is the most played console in this current gen. Piracy! I have many friends who refuse to buy a PS3 because you can't download the latest games from Torrents. That is the nail in the 360's coffin. Developers are already moving from the 360 to the (as yet) uncrackable PS3.

While Subman1 alludes to the PS3's assumed failure as a games console in the US, the console itself has seen a 60% rise in sales worldwide during 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. Not too shabby if it's only a BR player.

Regardless of how the PS3 makes it into homes, it is there and will be used for movies & gaming alike. As I said before, I believe the PS3 was a shrewd way to win the HD format war, and I remember your thoughts on that particular subject.

Another thing about your link there. The heading "PlayStation 2: Most Played Console of 2008", um what was the life cycle of the PS2? About 10 yrs, which coincidently is the same projected timescale for the PS3. What's the old adage about the Tortoise & the Hare?

So, I don't really find the link you supplied interesting. Partly because it's only based on the viewing/usage of polled US citizens (which has never been a PS stronghold) and partly because it's just too early in the PS3's life cycle to tell.

Saying the ps 2 had a life cycle of 10 years is *propaganda*.
What new AAA games are coming out for the ps 2 ? None. The system is as well as DEAD. For pete's sake, even the dreamcast had games coming out for it years after the system was trashed by Sega but nobody in here right mind would say the console had any commercial life left in it.

....and yet nearly 9 years since the PS2 was released, it is still the most played console (according to Subman1's link), regardless of AAA titles. Strange that.:hmm:

People still play SNES games, does that make the life cycle of the console 20 years ? :shifty:
C'mon man, by life cycle of a console it is intended the years during which AAA games are being developed for it. Nobody develops anymore AAA titles for the ps 2, therefore its commercial life as a gaming platform is over. This doesn't mean that people can't continue to enjoy old games the same as people enjoy N64 games or SNES games or dreamcast games.

People still play all these things, but what this article is about is 'which console got played the most in 2008'. Not sure why this is a big deal? I was expecting Wii to be at the top of the list.

Take Halo out of the shelves and Xbox sales will be lower than that of donkey's poo. :yep: And Halo is the reason why it sells so well, especially in the US. US ppl have never been into same games as we Europeans and Asians, namely the roleplaying games (FF to name one). Tho, another big reason is what Dan already said, Xbox is cracked.

Um, how's about... Uncharted Drake's Fortune, GT5, MGS4, Motorstorm, Little Big Planet, Warhawk, to name but a few. Oh and all the PS1 games you could possibly want. Overboard ftw!

I went to lunch today with someone I've known for a while and he has a PS/3, along with XBOX360, GC, Wii, you name the console, he probably has it. His PS/3 has of course been relegated to Blu-Ray duty and he doesn't allow game playing in his TV room. The 360 seems to get the most attention.
