I have this error message "Cannot intialize 3D engine" everytime i try to run SH III or IV. I know this topic has been solved before, but none of those suggestions worked for me..I've tried to run the game with 1024 x768 , with different refresh rates, tried to delete the two movie files, changed graphics drivers- none of those made a difference.
The weird part is, that about a year ago my pc played SH III and IV with no problems at all, but only now , after a fresh install of windows XP I get this error.. Any ideas?

Please state your:
Graphics Card
GC Drivers
Any graphics tools you're using e.g. nHancer, RivaTuner, ATI Tray Tools, etc.

Are you forcing triple buffering anywhere e.g. using D3DOverrider?

Sorry, forgot to mention my GC- it's nvidia 7600GT.I've read from here that nvidia cards have poroblems with SH. GC driver -178.24 , which would be the latest i guess.
I have used Rivatuner.

I have used Rivatuner.

Rivatuner comes with D3DOverrider. Is it running? If it is then there will be an icon in your system tray which looks like a green X in a black circle. If it's there, right-click on it and close it down, and try again.

If that fails, look in your GC driver settings to see if you have triple buffering enabled (I'm not familiar with nvidia driver settings so I don't know if it's even there, but if it is then you need to turn it off).

If that fails, uninstall RivaTuner and reboot and then try again.

Thank you! got it to work by removing D3DOverrider! Thanks again
