I tried this question on the SHIII Mod Forum, and I think I got 1 responce , so I'll try here . I,m getting ready to upgrade my entire system . I know this is kinda like the " taste great - less filling " debate . So here goes , ATI or nVidia . Just need some opinions on which card YOU would prefer playing SH III . I've been an nVidia user forever and am thinkn of a switch to an ATI based card . :damn:

If I had to do my 4 month old system again...ATI instead of nVidia. nVidia is getting ridiculous with their disabling of user configurations...just look at all the threads for workarounds to get AA to work in FS9 and SH3. When I built this system I was basing the graphics on "word of mouth". I should have stuck with what I knew...never, ever had an issue with ATI. S-I-G-H!

ATI has a fraction of reported problems in the SHIII forums that nVidia has had.
I use ATI and have never had a problem.

I must admit to having a preference for nVidia myself.

I have tried ATI and suffered a few problems but my card was at the lower end of the scale.

Having said all that, my current card is a 7800GS so I'll soon be coming to the decision making process your currently experiencing.

"My taste includes both snails and oysters..."

Don't read that the wrong way - the reference just jumped into my head. I had a 128 MB ATI card and upgraded to a 256 MB NVidia card. I don't see much difference, but I think my next card (or the one in my next computer) will be ATI.

Much for muchness IMHO. I've got machines with comparable cards for both and can't see enough difference to say one is better than the other. If you want to understand the technical differences I'd suggest a visit to Toms Hardware where you can read several excellent comparisons between cards from both manufacturers: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/review/Components,1/Graphics-Cards,4/

This article would probably be a great place to start: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/radeon-geforce-graphics,review-31451.html

In reading it check out how many ties there are between the two products in each category!
