View Full Version : See The World with GWX!
Hello Seafarer! Life is wonderful,I have just finish my 39 patrol (base in Penang) late feb 1944 and I reach the base after a long travelling ,app 30.000 NM and I must say the country around the India Ocean the allow me too go in port and accomplish my mission. Specially Australia and port like Fremantle looks like they are very friendly and kind....If u dont inclued all the aircraft the try to hunt me, but I am alive, so I look forward to have GWX 3.0 ,now I use 2.1 and I will see how far I can go before some new install, 100% and some brand new mods can keep it up, My girlfriend ask me, last week if I have to choose SH3 or have her....the answer is simple.. Vendor
A woman have to know " alles für Deutschland " :arrgh!:

They'll never change: always blackmail to prevent us from doing what we like !
Hope you have made the right choice.

Hmm, it'd be nice to have a lady around for those special nights...
"Well honey, I'm back from death and destruction, sank a couple ships and got a decent shower. How are things here?"
"how are things here?, your off gallivanting all over the globe"..
"Take out the trash"
"Don't turn on the TV, I want quality time"
"We need to talk about your son"
On second thought, I think I prefer the North Atlantic - it's warmer.

Re "seeing the world" -- this reminds me, that apart from unique places like New York, and the superbly remodeled bases in GWX, the various port cities of the world have a generic quality.
Having dabbled in 3D graphics, I'm curious how hard it is to build a port city to include architectural landmarks, and how much more disc space would a heavily modded city take up?
If there is a relevant "how-to" stored in the forum, please direct me there. Grazie Mille!

I've often wondered the same thing, and always thought that some of the ports could do with a serious makeover.
I know from experience with 3Ds Max that models can be made low poly to aid in lessening "hits" to system performance. Some of those methods for SH3 could be as easy as making a building from a box shaped object and removing all inner faces - since those will never be viewable. BUT I have no experience with modding a game and wouldn't know where to begin. The folks round here that can mod - be it altering existing models in external applications - and those that do the re-programming/editing thing blow my mind.

Most of the Harbor buildings and stuff is stored in one dat file.
The Habors and Cities themselves in other dats.
Those hold no 3d models but hold the info on the placements of
the models in the Harbor_kit dat.
The location files place those Cities and Harbors on the terrain.
Modding in a bunch of new places useing the existing models
wouldn't hit the system to hard as they would not be rendered until in range.
Add a bunch of new models and you'll see longer load times.
The hardest part is the building of the new Cities and such.
There's no visual editor available to drag and drop parts and pieces.
So it's a matter of do a little work,
then look at that work in Game.
Long drawn out PITA!!
