View Full Version : Let the right one in - best vampire movie ever
Its a swedish vampire movie, of all things, and its one of the best films I saw in 2008. The Cloverfield dude is making a Hollywood remake, but watch the original with subs. Its amazing.

Best one I have ever seen is an old black and white film called Nostarafu?? I didn't spell it correctly, but it was chilling, especially the first time you watched it.

It looks good! For me anyway, I thought 30 days of night was well done. The worst one I thought was Coppola's remake of Dracula.

Nosferatu - yeah, that always spooked me too.

I'm looking forward to this vampire flick later this year:

Gave me the heebie-jeebies.
:o
You can see it in the US, but I read its being smothered by the more conventional Twilight thingy.
The best vampire movie ever in my opinion is the one with Bela Lugosi. He scared the crap out of me when i was a youngster.

My personal favorite is still Fright Night. "Mom, our neighbor's a vampire!"

Speaking of Vampires, anyone else read "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova?

I thought it was a good blend of History and fiction. Though it is kinda long, it read fast for me. I actually earned a bit about Eastern Europe.

I hated 30 days of night. IMO it "raped" the whole Vampire genre. It had more zombie stuff in it than vampire. Ow and the ending has to be one of the stupidest I've ever seen. As an horror movie, it was pretty good, but as a vampire movie, a disgrace. :nope:

Nosferatu made me laugh hysterically as a child, partly because he looked so funny, and partly because my dad had left in fast foward like an old-fashioned comedy. Vampires, unfortunately are no longer scary to most people, so the genre is dead. Apart from sappy teen "literature" :shifty:

I think I might actually rent that movie someday. There are a lot of really good foreign films that don't get the credit they deserve, and I don't mean films like Das Boot, which a disturbingly large number of people don't appreciate. I mean films with mainstream appeal that don't require the average American to be aware of the exsistence of a historical event that didn't happen during their lifetime.
This movie appears to feature the more subtle elements of vampirism. Does it? I seriously cannot take another second of some idiot attempting to kill a vampire with a wooden stake or a suitably applied cross when a shotgun would easily do the trick. If you blow a vampire's head off, it can't even see you, let alone bite you, right? How is it going to chase you if it only has one leg, or you split it in half? IMO, in most action-horror flicks, whatever the genre, there is a serious lack of appropriate resource use on the part of the victims. Moreover, there is the consistent failure of "defenseless" female victims to be able to run without falling and/or cornering themselves.
As long as this film doesn't have much of that garbage, I'm in:up:

I read it and enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to whatever else Kostova publishes.

I can assure you, it has none of that garbage. It doesnt even have ONE (1) Boooooo!-I was-right-behind-you-but-decided-to-wait-for-the-music-to-calm-down-before-attacking-moment. And I agree, lots of really good foreign movies get lost in the world of blockbusters.
My personal favorite is still Fright Night. "Mom, our neighbor's a vampire!"
How about The Lost Boys,"Michael you're a vampire a ---- sucking vampire, wait 'till mother finds out!"
