I know Ubi never finished the sub AI, but what I witnessed tonite was certainly weird anyway. I was out in the western approaches to the Irish Sea, when I got a sub contact on the sonar. Once I got close enough to ensure it wasn't one of those Gatos I occasionally see, I noticed that it was a Type VII flak boat! I figured I'd sail along with it as it plied the convoy lane and perhaps we could shoot down some planes, or at least he'd make a good decoy. In SH IV I've had a great time sailing my Bismarck with other surface ships and blowing convoys to hell.
Soon I got another contact, this time an Allied tramp steamer. I submerged to set up a shot (this is late in the war and even these rust buckets have multiple guns) and carefully noted what my buddy did. Well it turned out that he and the steamer were on a head-on collision course! Eagerly awaiting the fireworks, they slowly approached each other...and nary a shot was fired by either vessel. The u-boat passed literally 100 meters away from the steamer, and other than an evasive manuever by the latter they ignored each other. Disappointed, I shot a fish at the ship while my worthless ally sailed on totally clueless, and got the kill.
Anyone else ever note what a friendly ship (sub or surface) does against enemy ships?
