I reinstalled Medieval 2 to cause some havoc in the Middle East, and the game forces me to install some .net thingys. Just after I clicked "ok" I remembered why i hated that. The next reboot and its there, the log in button. Is there any way to make XP start up without first having to click the blasted username button?

Why oh why design this annoying thing?

if yours is the only user account and you have guest account set to 'off', the welcome login screen will no longer appear unless you have a password set.

I`m liking the sound of this! Where do I kill guest accounts?

I thought that pain was only with .NET 1.0, did you try version 2 first?:-?

Nah, I just went along with the install.

Edit: Found the account thingy in control panel and switched off guest accounts. Thanks, She-Wolf!

btw, TweakUI (if using XP) is a nice utility for managing little annoying settings like that ... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx

I have done this on every XP box I have had in my home, works fine - still allows for logoff/switch users when needed.

Actually - SP2 for xp when installed disables the autologin even if there is only one active ID. This is an easy and so far, permanent fix, so you don't have to worry about another install of .net (regardless of version) screwing things up.
