I was thinking about picking up a new monitor. Can anyone tell me if SH4 supports wide screen resolutions ?

Cool. Thanks AVG ! I searched for an answer here, but the only info I found was for SH3 and from what I read it does not appear to support the wide screen format.
Now I'm also assuming there is an increased field of view ? If so, did you notice any drop in frame rate ?

No drop at all on my wimpy rig. 3200+ and 7800GS card with 2 gig of RAM. What was strange is my 22 inch native resolution is not supported by SH4 and the game said so however, the game plays in that resolution. It is like 1280x1050...something nuts like that. I also have it set up with DVI instead of analog. Makes for a clearer picture for sure. I purchased a Synmaster 22 by Samsung for $229.00 at Best Buy. It is super nice for the price. The internet showed it for $299.00 so I got a great deal.
This is it here

The built in speaker are really useless and I do not use them.

I have a 19'' monitor, runs fine. I plan to try it on my new 42" LCD TV :D,
currently running my older computer through it, and it looks great.

Well, I picked up the monitor, a 24" with a native res of 1920X1200. So far I'm diggin it but I did have to drop the resolution a bit, it looked incredible, but cost was costing me frames compared to my standard 19". I'll let you guys know how it turns out, time to dive....One bummer though, I'll need to return it and swap, there are a couple of dead pixels near the middle of the screen, one red and one blue, otherwise... :D

SH3 plays well on my 19" widescreen.

Hi, I got a 22' wide screen monitor (16/9) for christmas. SH4 works fine the only problem is that with the aviable resolutions that I find in SH I can just pick one that makes things in the video deformed... if you look at a circle for example it's elittic (wider in the height).
anybody knows if there is a way to fix this problem?

SH3 plays well on my 19" widescreen.
Yeah, with oval circles and other deformations. SH3 is designed for 1024x768, and with the res fix the basic viewport is only stretched or compressed to fit the screen, while the field of view doesn't change. This means any non-4:3 resolution users will have deformations.

yep, that's what I was afraid of.
... I'll just keep playing on my secondary monitor then :) a 20' 4:3 it will be just fine

Ah we have a misunderstanding here, I was talking only about SH3.
SH4 is an altogether different beast, and as the guys said above also supports non-4:3 resolutions. I know for a fact that a narrower resolution like 1280x1024 produces a flawless picture, but I haven't tried it with a widescreen monitor. As you see the guys above seem to agree that it is indeed supported to some extent.

Yes, I know you are talking about SH3 but on the 4 for what I'm experiencing seems to be the same thing. The game stretches the 4:3 to make it fit the other ratios so the image result deformed wich is kind of annoying.
I have been running it on a 40 inch for a while now, a year to be exact. Haven't had a problem, so go ahead and do it. It's pretty and encompassing.

what resolution are you using Jalu3?

I had to play with my settings a bit to get things to look right. If I recall, you should be able to find a 8:5 ratio within your screen resolution choices. These ratios are listed with the resolutions. One of these should work for you. Also, after changing the resolutions, you must exit and restart the game for the setting to take effect.

Is there any hope of getting it to play nice with the Matrox Digital TH2GO?

You are right Frogman, I've tryed one of those 8:5 resolution and it looks fine now. with the 16:9 it was looking stretched.
Thanks!

I don't know if that's possible, but I was wondering if it is possible to use two monitors at least. Anybody tryed?

With SH4 you should get no distortion with a widescreen if you run it in it's native resolution.
For a 22 inch widescreen that resolution is 1680x1050.
That is what I have and SH4 looks great on it....distortion free. If you get a larger screen the native resolution will go up so make sure your video card can handle that demand.
LCDs just do not look right run on a resolution that is not their "native" resolution. That is when you can get stretching or distortion.

I got the Matrox for Christmas, and all I can say is Wow!
SH4 runs at 3840 X 1024, but the interface goes off the top and bottom of the screen, so it's unusable. There may be a way to go in and edit the menu.ini to reposition everything, but I cut it back to 2560 x 1024 and it fits on the left and center screens without running off the top and bottom. The only problem is that the bezel is right in the center of your view which is why three screens is much better. :|\\

I picked up a DVI cable yesterday to use on my new 24" monitor. Man does it look stunning. I'm quite suprised at the difference between using VGA vs DVI. The DVI picture clarity and color is much superior.

With your DVI cable there is no need for analog/digital conversion, so you will see an increase in performance. And don't forget to change your Brightness and contrast, LCD is way different then CRT for settings.
My current settings
Brightness 35%
Digital Vibrance 36% - (live video)
Contrast 75%
The blacks are deep and the colors are really sharp. Of course to each there own.

I just splurged and bought a new 24" widescreen monitor (NEC MultiSync 2490) for a pretty penny. There are websites out there dedicated to widescreen usage for a lot of games but not many sims. Even so, the information may be useful to many here asking these questions.
For those experiencing distortion, you can lock the aspect setting usually within the monitor control panel and if not there, then in your graphics card control software. This will allow you to run the sim at standard 4x3 resolution if forcing widescreen doesn't work. It's called "pillerboxing" and you end up with a dark band on the left and right side of the screen.
I've only had my new monitor for a week and still getting used to it. Some software has native support while others need the INI tweaked (DOOM3 is a good example). You should visit the website and get educated on the various ways software deals with a widescreen monitor. They also have a game tweaking database by the way.
The website is "widescreengamingforum". Google for the link.
