That is a great movie, and an excellent multi-character (and culture)study.
Does anybody know if there ever was the German language version released on DVD in an uncut version, and where to get that these days? I checked German, French and British Amazon, the German verison is cut, the other two Amazons offer only the English/Japanese language versions (of which I even do not know if they are cut or not).

I saw that movie while still going to school. It was the Royal Palast in Berlin, harboured in the Europa-Center near the Gedächtnis-Kirche, which featured the world's biggest 70mm screen (the whole cinema especially designed for 70mm movies), and four additional cinemas. I only saw that movie because I landed in the wrong cinema, wanting to see a very different film - but the hypnotic soundtrack glued me to the seat.
The cinema is gone since two years or so. It was decided that another electronic shop was needed to be built in it's place - there are so few only in the world. I would like to hang those who made that decision. It was a great cinema, both in size and style.
I saw the original and very first Star Wars in that cinema, on that monster screen. What a flight that was!
