I believe the adverts are selected based on a catalogue that uses subject matter appearing on the page. For example, if a thread in General Topics contained a discussion about Star Trek, then the adverts would display Star Trek or Science Fiction related content. Fascinating.

You can set it to disable itself with this site (subsim). If your using ******* plus just click on the little down arrow beside its icon and select "disable on www.subsim.com"
