Last.fm is doing this now. Here is the latest CD I just bought - http://www.last.fm/music/Cardamar/Where+The+Skies+End

That is the best way to purchase music. That CD should arrive in the mail tomorrow. Until then, I can enjoy the whole CD in lower quality.

In case you care, I'm most interested in the track 'start' (track 3) off this CD since it looks awesome in testing different sounds and stereo imaging on any stereo system. And the end just jams! :D

PS. Root escape is a good follow on for stereo testing.

PPS. I like my music a little bit more complex than the standard by the way.

How low is the lower quality? I mean is it listenable?

How low is the lower quality? I mean is it listenable?Definitely. Probably 96 Kb I'd guess. As good as you get from any music stream site. Load up a track and check it.

You can only can play a song so many times though before they start feeding you 29 sec samples, but if you are computer savvy and no a thing or two about cookies...... Oops! Did I say that? :D :p

Further on the subject. Pandora is also cool. Put in your artist that you like, and it will mix up music for you:
