i have bbeen thinking for some time about this one.

will the sdk contain stuff that lets us mod ANYTHING???

now get a piece of paper and put the numbers 1-20 on it. when you think something is possible, put a yes next to the number of the question. if not, put a no. then post your results.

will we be able to

1. let ai subs use torpedos?
2. make big sewers under continents that lets us sail into them??
3. add as many new submarines to the list of them we can purchase?
4. add new torpedos, like the one mentioned at the end of the torpedo part in the gwx manual?
5. play as a plane, zeppelin or something like that?
6. bernhards monster truck ralley?
7. a land campaign?
8. people in lifeboats that you can kill?
9. artillery rockets like used in the black sea?
10. destroyable land targets?
11. a MMORPG campaign that you can play over the internet where you and your friends make a wolfpack, have adventures and stuff like that?
12. when a plane comes and shoots your u boat, your people will die, with blood?
13. sea planes that can take of and land in the water to create a living brething atmosphere?
14. send the kriegsmarine to help you in a tight spot?
15. kamakaze planes for an indian ocean campaign?
16. indian ocean and black sea campaign with GRIDS!!!!?
17. ships that do what they do, so they are not just thier to sink, like a trawler trawls, a whaler whales?
18. completely random stuff like rafts?
19, better physics, half life 2 physics? so when you shoot a ship with your deck gun, it will move!
20. destructable ships? i mean not like the type that goes down to the bottom intakt? so i want to see REAL HOLES WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS :o INSIDE WATHING THE WATER COME IN???

Ok... lets see,
1. No idea
2. Impossible with the game engine itself
3.??? We have lots of extra subs in the uber-mods..
4. The T3 LUT II is in game...
5. Ummm no, buy a different game.
6. Sure, why not..
7. See no. 5
8. There are lifeboat mods, but no one will make one so you can machine gun them..:nope:
9. Do you have any idea what the SDK is?
10. Perhaps, but there is no reasonable way you could inflict that much damage.
11. There is multiplayer, pleasure yourself with that please.
12. :nope:
13. Perhaps
14. Are you expecting the Kriegsmarine to sortie the Tirpitz to save a little U-boat? Subs operate too damn far away to help with ships.
15. On what? You? The Japanese ally?
16. Why bother?
17. Whaling ships have been converted to tankers, why do you want this?
18. See no. 8
19. Do you think ships are made of styrofoam? They wouldn't move. I don't know where you're going with this one cause the ships shink pretty realistically. Also, Half-life 2 is a FPS
20. You mean the Realistic damage mods?

Was this post an insane drunken dare?

I think you should read pages 3-4 on the "Size 10 humor" thread if you really want to see a happy thread. :D

I think I may have been extremely pissed when I first posted, explaining the snippiness. But the list is kinda biased isn't it?

Bit like if I asked you 1+1, and I gave you these choices

1. Four
2. J
3. Batman

SDK is what it says it is. A Software Developement Kit, IIRC, a set of tools to modify the files of a certain game.

Alot has been invented by the community by now to replace the never released SDK. Tools that make files accessable and makes it easier to work with them. Sure, they arent maybe as perfect as the SDK tool, but they get the job done.

Looking back the years I've been here and seeing how the modding has developed in SHIII, I'd say, the only thing holding the modders to achieve their goals isnt the SDK, but the know-how, or to put it the other way, the help from the devs themselves.

And ofcourse, there's the .exe modding that is a bog no-no, no idea how much would be achieved if Ubi would allow it.

Anywho, from my perspective, I dont see that the SDK would revolutionize the modding that much. :hmm:

An SDK is pretty much useless at this point in time.
Now.
You throw the source code at me?
Just so I can compile a new DLL?
That would be Golden!!
