Not a perfect shot, since there was no wall, fence, tree, lightmast or parked car I could lean on. It is a house 200 m down the road where I live, at the beginning of the zone where exclusively British soldier families live. Nothing against lights at christmas, but... http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6371/img0425rq7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I guess some people take "festival of light" seriously...

I live in the south of my city, in the foothills of the Brindabella Ranges, which are basically the foothills for the Aussie Alps. One of the hills in a very well-to-do suburb has got houses built half way up, and almost every place has got similarly garish lights on it!
Certainly makes for a spectacular view when one drives onver the hills into the valley!

I spent 22 dollars on 2 sets of LED Christmas lights. One of the best investments ever.
Low power
Much better looking than cheapo lights
Last longer
It is GE you twit! What more do you need?
So if they went LED they are fine.

Looks like they really get into the spirit of the holidays.....If they can afford the electric bill, let them have fun.........

Oy.. I lived in a suburb once, this brings back painful memories.
I remember waking up after a nap and getting blinded by the sheer number of christmas lights outside the window..:shifty:

NASA called. They said your lights are blocking out their view of the sun.

Aw c'mon......that's not in the spirit of the holiday:D
Besides, I've balanced whatever emissions they may be producing by not putting any lights up or even having a tree.

The solar panels are on the sloping roof (top right in the photo), and the wet-cell storage batteries are in the basement, so it really doesn't cost him anything.
Or it wouldn't if he were a sub-simmer anyway...(he just has to watch out for buildup of chlorine fumes in case his basement fills with seawater...). :-P
Or maybe he just feeds solar gain into the power grid during the daytime so he can take it back out again at night. That's the "real way," (although proper submariners might roll their eyes in disgust too).

I like xmas lights. _But this way I think it is massively exaggerated, and kitschig. I also do not like the kind of colourful hectically blinking visual stress that looks more like a brothel than xmas. Keep it a bit simplier, I say.
Oh, and btw, those houses do not have solar panels.

What does kitschig mean? Tacky, or something like that?
Well, perhaps they are kitschig, and massively exaggerated, but that's someone's choice. They may not have much class, but at least they have a lot of enthusiasm:D

Have seen this morning that they also have a "charity box" put outside - for the electricity bill.
Four years ago, we had a family like that already. At that time I used to occasionally talk with one of the British soldiers in that street who also was stationed in Muenster at that time, he was a dog owner, and as it happens - you get talking to somebody over the dog. That we became friends would be said too much, but we had a lose contact until he left, they rotate every 1-2 years. He said that the other Brits living in that street (around a dozen houses like that) were not too happy, for it gave them a bad image with the Germans, they feared. Well, there are Germans being as excessive like in this example, and worse: there are those who set up a hundred "Gartenzwerge" (garden gnomes) in their garden, which easily tops the Kitsch of the xmas lights in this example. It may be somebody's choice, as you said - but he is affecting the sight of a complete street - and the other people living there never got asked.
