Summer 1943.

U-69 in AM 23, mid-day, clear weather. Two ships spotted, but we have no torpedoes left. They're moving at 10 knots away from us. Set course for intercept, ahead flank.

A few minutes later, two ASW planes decide to come play ball.

Air action!

After many passes they were eventually both shot down with little damage to the sub. I set the course back on the merchants at flank speed, and man the deck gun. Began firing at 8000m and it took about 50 rounds to finally take down the ore carrier. His small merchant friend went up in flames in much less than that, but that's because we were closer. It's really not that easy to hit the waterline at long range. Both ships were firing at us with all they had the whole time. It's clear these merchants don't know the bore end of a gun from the other... They had at least 3 times more firepower than me and my 8,8cm pebble shooter on that ore carrier and did not manage to hit U-69 a single time. Sorry there aren't any real shots of the action, the photograph was busy at the time :arrgh!:

The aftermath.

GWX 2.1. Well like I said, I started shooting at 8000m ... Got the kill by the time we were in at 4000 or 5000m.

Had to do it myself though, my crew's aim is as bad as the enemy's.

1750 Grid AM 23 Aircraft destroyed! Hudson
1822 Grid AM 23 Aircraft destroyed! Sunderland
1829 Grid AM 23 Ship sunk! S.S. Atheling (Ore Carrier), 8081 tons
1830 Grid AM 23 Ship sunk! S.S. Sea Flier (Small Freighter), 2232 tons
U-boat damaged (H.I. 80.32%)

Good shooting skills at 8000m! I personally shoot at less than 1000m and usually as coup de grace in early war, you know, their rapid firing cannons in later war kills.

I havn't tried shooting for a long time. My last time is outfitting a Type VII as a U-Flak and downed more than 20 enemy planes. Though the boat get pretty ruined aftermath. But that is on vanilla SH3. Dare not try it in GWX after a failure to sink a great merchant (found it has 2 or 3 cannons, many flaks, so on)

Now playing NYGM using Type XXIII... Grr. no flak nor desk gun = no shooting. Anyway, in later war, shooting is suicidial, especially at British coast

The definion of badassery is fighting DD's, merchants while shooting down planes, in the GWX these days

You wasted so many rounds of gun shells instead of ramming? :D

No, that's the definition of gaming.
